Gary STRENGTH Obituary

STRENGTH, Gary: It is with deep sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Gary Alan Strength, lovingly known as The Warrior, on July 16th, at 9:40 pm. Gary grabbed his tennis racquet, jumped on his Harley, and left this planet to meet up with his old and dear friends Myron & Bob, who had gone before him. Gary was born on October 27, 1946, in San Pedro, Los Angeles, and grew up in both California and Nevada. His life was defined by curiosity, courage, creativity, and, above all, love. In 1968, Gary met the love of his life, Linda, and the two were married in 1971. Their nearly 55-year journey together was filled with adventure, laughter, devotion, and unwavering partnership. Gary embraced the ideals and spirit of the counter cultural movement, living as an active hippie from 1968 to 1978. In 1970, he left the U.S. behind and immigrated to British Columbia, Canada, with Linda - a bold and defining chapter of their lives together. Gary was a self-made entrepreneur with a creative soul. He founded Heaven's Door Jewelry in 1976, crafting and selling handmade pieces of turquoise and silver jewellery. The success of that business allowed him to open The Bumwrap, a unique and beloved clothing store in Penticton, B.C., in 1978. Over the next 24 years, The Bumwrap became a local institution - a reflection of Gary's style, spirit, and connection to the community. He retired in 2002, having built not just a business, but a legacy. In retirement, Gary and Linda took to the road, sea, and the skies, travelling through Canada, the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and the Caribbean. Whether they were riding their motorcycles, on the tennis court, swinging a golf club, or playing pickle ball, Gary approached life with energy and enthusiasm. Gary was a proud pacifist, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a free-spirited adventurer. He lived on his own terms and inspired others to do the same. He will be forever missed by his wife, Linda; his son Nathan (Traycie), his son Matthew (Heather); his beloved Dog Myla; as well as all those who knew and loved him. Per Gary's wishes, there will be no funeral nor viewing; instead there will be a celebration of Gary's life held in the early fall when the weather cools. Details will be announced at a later date. Instead of flowers, donations to the Penticton SPCA in Gary's name are warmly welcomed. Gary Alan Strength lived a life of passion, peace, and purpose. True to his nickname, The Warrior, he moved through the world with quiet strength and fearless authenticity - a life well-lived, and a soul deeply loved.
