Jean DUNCAN Obituary

DUNCAN, Jean: It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Duncan announces her peaceful passing on May 15, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born March 17, 1929, Jean was a lifelong resident of Penticton. She graduated from Penticton Senior Secondary High School in 1947 and entered the Vancouver General Hospital Registered Nursing program, graduating in 1951. She returned to Penticton to nurse at the Penticton Regional Hospital. In 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Howard Duncan. Together, over the next 57 years, they built a loving marriage, raised two sons, enjoyed extensive world travel, volunteered at various Penticton charities, and proudly watched their five grandchildren grow into independent young men and women. Jean is survived by her son Robin Duncan, daughters- in- law, Marguerite Duncan and Vicki Duncan, grandchildren Iain Duncan (Anne Fleet), Brittany Thurgate (Cameron), Ceiligh Tummon, Callum Duncan (Emily), James Duncan (Courtney), great grandchildren Bailey Thurgate, Jacqueline Tummon, Keira Thurgate, Lila Duncan, and Harper Duncan. Jean is predeceased by her husband Howard Duncan, son Sandy Duncan, sister Elizabeth Schoening, and brother-in-law Allan Schoening. A graveside service will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery at 11:00 am, Saturday May 24, 2025, followed by a social gathering of family and friends at the Everden Rust Funeral Home, 1130 Carmi Ave, Penticton B.C. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family requests you make a donation to the Charity of Your Choice. The family extends its gratitude to Jean's long-time physician Dr. Robin Masson, and to the nurses, care aids and the medical support team of the 5th floor of the Penticton Regional Hospital, for the compassionate care she received during her time in the hospital. Jean was always such a bubbly happy lady and she always made me laugh. Her stories were funny and her constant chuckles made me smile. She was a woman who was as strong as steel but inside was as soft as a kitten. She was definitely a woman with strong opinions. She cherished her family and friends and she always made me feel welcome no matter the day or the place we would see each other. I know that she appreciated Vicki always being there for her, through thick and thin, and she told me this on many occasions .
Jean had a very wonderful life. She will be missed.
My deepest condolences to all the family during this time of loss.
