John PEACOCK Obituary

PEACOCK, John Charles: January 7, 1934 - June 22, 2022 Longtime Kelowna Lawyer. Graduated from UBC Law School (Kappa Sigma) in May 1959. Called to the BC Bar in June 1960. Fifty-seven years as a member of the Law Society of BC. It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our incredible loving Father and Grandpa, whose legacy will always be defined by his amazing, unconditional love and commitment to his family. He was our quiet anchor, always available, always open for whatever we needed……we were so lucky to have you in our lives for 88 plus years. John practiced law for nearly 60 years, working with many families and businesses in Kelowna. His passion and generosity for helping others really had no limits. We are grateful for the many people over the years, who have shared stories with us about how kind John was, how he helped them, and how much they appreciated and loved him. John's life was best measured by the meaningful relationships he had, which are far too many to count. John and his 3 sisters, Marge (Trieber), Irene (Morgan), and Dorothy (Hovey), alongside their adoring parents, Margaret and Charles ('Chubb') Peacock, were born and raised in Saskatchewan, living their early years growing up on a farm. They had little money or material possessions, and Dad always commented on how wonderful their life was because they had each other. His love for his parents and sisters was always something we admired. For those that knew him, John was never shy in sharing his opinions on religion, politics, the universe, the world's challenges, you name it. He was the king of the 'out of nowhere random facts' conversation. This came from John's huge passion for reading and learning, and he was always eager to share. For sure Dad, you taught us to challenge the status quo, and think more deeply about important topics of the day. From John's early days growing up in small-town Kelowna, right through into his mid-eighties, he relentlessly pursued adventure and experiences, always alongside his boys, and grandkids. The boating excursions on the Okanagan, skiing Big White, and the fishing and hunting trips too numerous to count; all will be forever etched in our minds. His last great trip was just over a year ago, a wonderful fly fishing trip to Tunkwa Lake with two of his sons and grandkids, sipping a scotch and smokin' a big cigar (for old times sakes!) The world would be hard-pressed to find a kinder and more gentle man than you, Dad. From your 'over the top' love for your pets (and ours!) to your quiet and unshakeable love for your family and close friends to your magic ability to engage in genuine conversation with just about everyone, including complete strangers, was something to behold. Great men are 5% defined by what they built, and what they left behind. But they most importantly are 95% defined by how they made you feel when you were around them. Dad, it's all so clear now that you had that in spades. What a beautiful legacy. We love you forever. John Sr. is survived by his sons - Mark (Heidi); John (Glenda); Brent (Corrine) and daughter Jessie- Anne; ex-spouse Shirley-Anne Denney; and grandchildren Andrew, Jesse, Ava, and Tess. He was tragically predeceased by his beloved grandson Morgan. At John's request, and true to form, he did not want a big fuss (funeral) for his passing. Instead, we will be hosting a 'drop-in' Celebration of Life, at the Bohemian Café, 524 Bernard Ave, downtown Kelowna, on July 26, 2022, from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Please stop by and share a glass of wine and a story or two about our Dad. While not mandatory, it would be appreciated if you could confirm attendance, by sending a quick email to [email protected]. John, Mark, Brent, Jessie-Ann and the entire Peacock family, I am so sorry about the passing of such a great guy. John Sr., had a heart of gold, such a gentleman and a such a great spirit. I would love to go to his office and see his dog lying nearby to him or run in see him at his favorite breakfast spot.
Most importantly, he loved his family and living a fulfilling life. He truly left an imprint on people and a gift to have known him. He will be missed.
