1928 - 2024

ALVES, Jose Fernandes: 1928 - 2024 Jose Fernandes Alves, born in Algarve, Portugal October 29, 1928, passed away on January 29, 2024 after a short stay in hospice. Jose is survived by his wife, Maria, whom he married in February 1957; his one son, Len, daughter-in-law, Kim, and grandson, Zack. Born the second child of six siblings, he is also survived by his sister Alzira. Jose moved to Canada in 1955 where he worked various jobs in various places in BC. He settled in Castlegar in 1960 where he worked at the Celgar sawmill and became a millwright. In 1967 he also started a family business called Joe Alves Imported Foods that served downtown Castlegar for 19 years. He retired from the sawmill and sold his business in 1986. After retiring they moved to Penticton and spent part of the years at their home in Portugal. Jose was fond of dancing and spending time with his friends at Skaha Park. Jose will be fondly remembered for his generosity of spirit and kindness to everyone whose lives he touched. On behalf of the family, we thank you for your caring thoughts. Prayers will be at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Penticton on Monday, February 5 at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, February 6 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
