Karen Bennett Obituary
Bennett, Karen: 1946 - 2024 It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Karen, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother. She passed away on January 21, 2024 with her family by her side following a hard fought battle with cancer. Mom was pre-deceased by parents William (Bill) and Alma Watson. She is survived by her loving husband Peter, her children Jane and Julie (Isra), her three grandchildren Kieran, Coleman, and Giovanna, her brother Douglas (Pat), and her nieces Fiona (Garth) and Kristina (Brad). Mom was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on February 8, 1946. She and dad met in Singapore while he was there teaching and she was on sabbatical visiting her brother, who was also working there at the time. Mutual friends set them up on a date and they never looked back. They were married in Moose Jaw on August 7, 1971 and then moved to Germany where dad had another teaching assignment. They returned to Canada in 1978 to raise their family settling in Kaleden in 1980. Mom was an elementary school teacher/librarian and taught at a number of schools in Penticton before finding a permanent home as the Kaleden Elementary School Librarian until her retirement in 2005. Mom was always very active; she loved gardening, was a long-standing member of the Kaleden tennis club, and later joined the South Okanagan Weaver's guild. She became a very accomplished weaver and many of her beautiful creations are enjoyed by family and friends. Upon retirement, she and dad took many trips continuing their life-long passion for travel. Mom was described by many who knew her as incredibly kind, generous, patient, and thoughtful. She absolutely doted on her three grandchildren and nephews. She fought cancer bravely and without complaint to stay with us as long as she could. Mom, we love you and you will be forever missed. Rest in peace. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date, closer to the summer.
