VIEN, Madeleine Demers: 1928 - 2017. Following a year of declining health, Madeleine Demers Vien passed away suddenly on October 5th, 2017 in Kelowna, British Columbia at the age of 88. She was the daughter of the late Judge André Demers and the late Berthe Bélanger. She was predeceased in January 2015 by her beloved husband of 59 years Raymond G. Vien. She leaves to mourn, her two children Louise and André (Rebecca Hill), as well as her grandson Alexandre Raymond (Alex). She was the sister of Robert (Liliane Densky), and Marielle (the late Michel Guénette). Her Vien in-laws: the late Georgette (the late Robert Major), the late Jean, the late Madeleine (the late André Bachand), the late Louise Vien Mauffette, the late Michel (the late Marie-Louise), the late Paul (Françoise Beaubien), Thérèse (the late André Clermont), and Hélène. Also her numerous Vien and Demers nieces and nephews who will always remember her engaging conversation and warm laughter, her strong mindedness and work ethic, and her usual triumph at cards and trivial pursuits. She was proud of her advanced education in music and literature especially from the University of Montreal. She was an avid reader of literature, and also was passionate about current affairs, which, she delighted in deliberating. She enjoyed music, the arts and culture with a true thirst for learning & knowledge. Born and raised in Outremont, QC, in 1980, she enterprisingly followed Raymond in his "adventure" to Western Canada. They moved to Calgary with his company to be closer to the oil boom demands and the rocky mountains which he loved. Their initial two years commitment away from Montreal never ended. They chose to stay and retire out west spending much time enjoying skiing, golfing and the outdoors in Invermere, British Columbia, which, they left in 2012 for the beautiful and milder climate of the Okanagan Valley. Madeleine was devoted to her husband and children, and all their pursuits. She was also a dedicated volunteer starting as a young woman as president of La Ligue de la Jeunesse Féminine (a prominent social organization helping the underprivileged), many school boards and fundraising campaigns, and of course, with ski racing organizations which was a family affair. The family wishes to thank the staff at Missionwood Retirement Resort where Madeleine continued to live until this past year, as well as, express their endless gratitude to the Lakeview Lodge staff for their excellent care, dedication, and for their compassionate approach during her stay the past twelve months. The family will host a Celebration of Life for Maman on November 11th, 2017 in Montréal, where, she will also be laid to rest at Cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges joining Raymond.
