Margery PUNNETT Obituary

PUNNETT, Margery Eleanor "Marge": 1915 - 2018. Marge passed away on April 24th, 2018 at the age of 102.5. Eldest child of Hugh and Joyce Leir and one of eleven brothers and sisters. Predeceased by her husband Trevor Punnett in 1991. Fondly remembered by her children, Rodney (Wendy), Rosalyn (Stuart), and Graham (Louise) and her Grandchildren Rhonda (Phil), Elliot (Roxy) Graeme, Mitchell, Skyler and Alysha (Rhett) and great Grandchildren Chelsea, Brandon, Jayce and Kiauna. There's a lot that can to be said about Marge - as recently posted on Facebook: she "lived with a subtle boldness, an interconnected independence". That was Mum; from gaining an intimate knowledge of the backroads of the Okanagan as a teenager driving her dad about, raising three kids in a tar paper shack up Carmi while milking goats in the shed, to always being tuned into nature - the birds in season, the sun and cloud conditions and her favoured view up Shingle Creek. She made extensive contributions to the Women's Auxiliary of St. Saviours and was a second-mother to a number of young adults. Keen supporter of the Penticton Art Gallery from its earliest beginnings, she assisted in hanging many shows and wrote a regular arts column for the Penticton Herald while hosting guest artists at her home. She graduated with a Diploma in Fine Arts in her sixties from the initial program at OK College and continued with water colours, sculpture and life drawing for many years. Always providing distinctive memories: lying asleep on the grass covered with an ancient overcoat between flower beds, harvesting armfuls of squash to be cooked despite some being three and half feet long, replacing morning coffee with apple cider vinegar (ugh!) and chatting with an eclectic mix of artists, friends and family wherever she was living. Same mischievous smile, same slightly cocky stance, she was always present. We'll all miss her. Sometime soon we'll host a celebration and toast her memory, with sherry, of course!
