Maria CASPERS Obituary

CASPERS, Maria "Mary" Berta (née Nederveld): December 26, 1930 - March 14, 2024 It is with profound sadness we share the news that Mary Caspers passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 14, 2024. Born in Niew Vennep Netherlands on December 26, 1930, she was pre-deceased by her husband Wilhelm ( Bill) in 1980. Mary was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Tante, and friend to all. She touched the lives of many with her zest for life, her love of family, and her ability to accept and love all. Family was the heart of Mary's life. She is survived by her three children Rita (Rod), Ingrid (Cody), and John (Trish); 6 grandchildren Geoff (Irene), Anita (Phil), Jennifer, Michelle (Curtis), Ashlea, and Stephan; 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan, William and Cameron; her sister Ellie (Piet), sister-in-law Willy and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as an avid reader, she surrounded herself with books and music and said she always felt rich as she had so many to choose from. She embraced new technology and loved her iPad and phone. The ability to stay in touch with her family and friends was something she never took for granted. She was a sports fan, loving hockey, and a very loud and proud supporter of the Dutch national soccer team. Throughout her life she attended many games in which her family was involved, She travelled to hockey, baseball, and Special Olympic soccer tournaments, and she supported her family in any way she could. She became Tante Rie to many. She was very proud of John joining the Air Force and after leaving active service, his 30 years with the Air Cadets. She was a strong and independent woman, determined to live on her own at Highlands Retirement Residence. As life became more challenging for her, she was bound to do things her way even if it drove the rest of us crazy!! A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at the Okanagan Mission Community Hall, 4409 Lakeshore Drive, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent in Mom's name to Kelowna Gospel Mission, kelownagospelmission.ca.
