TOMPKINS, Maureen June (nee Zelley): Born in Leicester, England and moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia with her parents in 1954. She graduated from Nanaimo Senior High School and later Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Education Degree. Maureen was a passionate and dedicated teacher who taught for many years in both Vernon and New Westminster. She later went on to work for several years as an Adjunct Professor at UBCO in Kelowna. Maureen will always be remembered for her optimistic outlook on life, her great sense of humour, and her love of travel. She had many interests and enjoyed nature and the outdoors, especially working in her garden where she spent countless hours. Maureen was devoted to her family and she will be deeply and sadly missed. She leaves behind her loving husband Vern of nearly 55 years, her son Jim, daughter Janice (Peter and kids), sister Sandra (Bob), brother Brian (Dorothy), grandsons James and Eddie and her wonderful nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 5th, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, B.C., V1Y 5V8.
