Peter NORTH

1926 - 2018

NORTH, Peter, August 21, 1926 - April 11, 2018. Peacefully on 11 April at Spring Valley Care Home, at the age of 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Peter was born in Prince Rupert and grew up in Terrace. He graduated from UBC with a BASc in 1950, and a MASc in 1954 from the University of Michigan. He joined the Canadian Army in 1949, serving with RCEME in Canada, the US and the UK, and winning awards for his work at DND in Ottawa. He married Scotty MacNeil in 1953, and after their divorce, Dorothy Kinsella in 1978, whom he met at St John the Evangelist in Ottawa. After retiring from the military, Peter was offered a job at Western Star, so he and Dorothy moved to Kelowna in 1992. A connoisseur of single-malt whiskies and steam trains, Peter continued his life-long passion for model railroading, modelling with the Ottawa Valley Associated Railroaders and later with the Central Okanagan Railway Club. Peter is predeceased by Dorothy, his step-daughter Deborah (Warren) and his sister, Joyce. He leaves his children: Andrew (Debra), Susan and Holly; his step-children: Henry (Paulette) and Kevin. Peter also leaves six grandchildren: Allan, David and Steven (Neil), Erin, Kelly and Madeleine, and one great-grandson, Lorenzo. Many thanks to neighbours Gaynor and Pete Adshead for all their generosity and kindness to Peter and Dorothy, and to the staff at Spring Valley Care Home for looking after them both so well. Service at St Michael and All Angels, 608 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, at 1 pm on Wednesday 18 April 2018, followed by a reception and tea. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be much appreciated.
