Preston MOTT Obituary

MOTT, Preston Sears: With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we remember Preston Sears Mott. On Friday March 13, 2026 Preston passed away after a 5-year journey bravely facing the challenges of Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones. Preston lived a full and adventurous 91 years. He was born in Summerland in 1935, and returned to the Okanagan after obtaining his law degree from UBC to serve the towns and communities he loved so well. Preston's career as a well-respected lawyer spanned over 50 years until he retired. Preston was also a passionate lifelong volunteer whose community involvement included over 30 years with the Rotary Club of Summerland and active volunteer work with many other organizations and projects in Penticton and Summerland. He always showed generosity and humility and celebrated others' contributions above his own. Preston had an enduring love for activity and adventure. At various times in his life he was a pilot, motorcyclist, scuba diver, avid skier, snowboarder, and squash player, commercial fisherman, and orchardist. He will be remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife Kerry and his children John (April), Michael (Liza), Maureen (Jay), Taryn (Menno), Daniel (Monica), Danna, Joe (Andrea), and Ben (Laura), his 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and former wife Sandy. Preston was sadly predeceased by his sisters Emily, Marjorie, and Laura, and son-in-law Derrick. A memorial ceremony will be held at the Summerland Baptist Church (10318 Elliott Street, Summerland B.C.) on Tuesday March 31st at 11:00am, with reception to follow. All are welcome to join in honouring Preston's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon or OneSky Seniors Services. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all the staff at Dr. Andrew Pavilion, the home care support team, the palliative home care team, Dr. Vandevyver, Dr. Grant, the Summerland Baptist Church community, and all of Preston's neighbours, friends, and colleagues for their compassionate care and support during Preston's last years and weeks.

Sincere condolences to the family. Preston Mott was an exceptional human being, a real gentleman, honest and with a good heart. I was his client for years, during my business career in Penticton. He was the best lawyer and the best of all the professional men I ever met. After our appointment he always chatted with me a little and complimented my apparel, then he walked me to the door and opened it for me. I have sure missed him when he retired. I often thought about how he was doing. RIP Preston you are another angel in heaven ! Louise from Louise's Bridal Fashions.

It was indeed a huge pleasure to know and work with Preston on numerous occasions while I was employed with Valley First Credit Union over 10 years, from 1988 to 1998.
I gained a lot of respect for him, his legal expertise, and his ability to quickly and effectively deal with any matters I brought to him, wether it was for personal reasons, or for the Credit Union.

In my view, Preston was a wonderfully keen thinking and knowlegeable person in so many respects that I am certain he provided an immensely helpful service to many Okanagan residents and businesses on anything he set his mind to doing when asked to, during the entire 50 years of his law career.
He will be missed by many.

Kerry & family
So sorry to learn of Preston´s passing. He was not only my lawyer but a sincere friend. He encouraged me to get involved with Parkdale Place Housing Society and the development of Angus Place. This was my proudest accomplishment thanks to Preston.
I´m sorry to miss his service as we are still in Cabo San Lucas.
Thinking of you, Ron & Bonnie Dunsdon
