Rae MEIER Obituary

MEIER, Rae Kenneth: September 24, 1945 - July 9, 2023 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rae Kenneth Meier, who peacefully departed on July 9, 2023, after a courageous 17-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. He triumphed over his illness and found solace in the loving embrace of Jesus, where he is now whole and healed. We find solace in this, and it brings us great joy. Rae was born on September 24, 1945, in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Harold and Charlotte Meier. The family resided in Balgonie and later moved to Davison, Saskatchewan. Rae pursued his education at the University of Saskatoon before relocating to Calgary, AB, where he discovered a career in the oil industry. It was in Calgary that he met Gail, a young lab technician, and their destinies intertwined. In April 1969, at the tender ages of 22 and 20 respectively, Rae and Gail embarked on a journey of love as they exchanged vows. Last April, they celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary, a testament to the deep connection they shared. In 1972, Rae and Gail moved to British Columbia and fulfilled Rae's lifelong dream of owning his own business by opening a small chain of Kelly's Stereo Mart stores. Music and stereo equipment were Rae's passions, and he poured his heart into this venture. After selling the stores in the 1980s, he explored various endeavours, trying his hand as a stockbroker and delving into businesses such as Lease Mart. Eventually, he founded a mortgage investment company, which he diligently nurtured until his retirement. Throughout his business endeavours, Rae became known for his honesty, integrity, and dedication to serving his clients. His genuine care and compassion for others were evident in every interaction. Rae had a zest for life and an active spirit. He thrived as an athlete and sports enthusiast, indulging in activities such as winter skiing at Big White, water-skiing on Okanagan Lake, hiking, camping, tennis, golf, and, above all, cherishing moments with his family. He was an exceptional father to his three children and embraced their friends as his own. The Meier household was a place of warmth and welcome for all. Community service was close to Rae's heart, and he actively contributed to various organizations. He served on the Downtown Business Association board, the Sunshine Theatre board, and was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club and the Church Council. For many years, he played an integral role in Young Life Kelowna, impacting the lives of countless young individuals. Rae leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Gail, who will deeply miss him. He will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Allison (Marcus), Daniel (Kristabel), and Bradley, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Grayson, Maya, and Malia Rae. He is also survived by his sister Carol and extended family in Saskatchewan. A service to honour and celebrate Rae's life will be held, on TUESDAY, JULY 18, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, alzheimer.ca/bc. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Pear Lane at Brants Creek Mews for their compassionate and loving care, which Rae received during his three years of residence there. Rae Kenneth Meier will forever be remembered as a man of integrity, passion, and love. His presence enriched the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue to inspire. He has completed the race set before him, he is in heaven, fully restored and free. May this knowledge and his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his loss.
