Robert DINGMAN Obituary

DINGMAN, Robert A.: Apr 9, 1947 - Jan 10, 2017 Bob Dingman, born in Drumheller, Alberta, left us suddenly and sadly at his home in Penticton. Bob will be remembered for his big sense of humour and generosity. He spent his formative years on the farm in Rumsey, Alberta and had fond memories of his upbringing there. Married in 1969 Bob and Joan spent 29 years living overseas, raising their growing family and experiencing life in many different countries. Family has always been important to Bob, coming back to Canada every year to nurture those connections. He had a large presence in life and a willingness to be there for others. Bob is survived by his four siblings (Sue Evans, Bonny Mieske, Diane Peterson, Dave Dingman), wife Joan, three daughters and five grandchildren. His family and close friends will be celebrating Bob's life through a variety of his favourite activities on January 28th. Donations in his honour can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

In my previous note, I meant to say we miss Bob's hearty LAUGH on the volleyball court.

Joan, our condolences to you and your family. Colleen and I will continue to remember you and Bob very fondly. You both took us youngsters under your wings in Lagos, Nigeria in 1984. I was a young inexperienced financial controller and Bob was my boss as manager of Dowell Schlumberger's West African Division. Bob was kind and patient with me and kept me from getting into difficulty on more than one occasion. It was difficult to rile Bob; he was always calm in the face of chaos. Joan and Bob made us feel at home and, although our time together was short, we have always valued that friendship. Bob was an upstanding and solid human being.

Joan, My sincere condolences to you and your family. Bob was a great mentor to me in my early career as an engineer with Dowell Schlumberger in Venezuela ... something I've always appreciated. Bob knew the business so well and was always more than willing to pass his expertise on to those of us who were just learning the trade. Bob's advice and guidance served me well during my lengthy career in the oil and gas industry, something I'll always cherish.
With deepest sympathy, Bruce

Joan, my condolences to you and your family. I will miss Bob's hearty on the volleyball court and everywhere he was. He gave me some golf tips last summer (in his usual friendly and humourous way). Regards, Monika Young

My most sincere sympathy and condolences to the entire Dingman family on the sad and sudden passing of Bob.
The previous messages on this page are a wonderful testament to the man he was and the life he lived to the fullest.
I remember fondly our family get togethers, the skating parties, the Christmas dinners and the various other activities we shared as kids in Rowley and Rumsey.

I hope the many wonderful memories you have will help ease your sorrow at this time.
My thoughts are with all of you.

Needless to say I am sure that no one is ever really prepared to hear of the sudden passing of anyone that was so full of life. I know I wasn't when I heard of Bob's sudden and untimely passing last week.

I came to know Bob through his daughter Jocelyn who was working with my company as our Controller. We were a small, relatively new, startup and were in need of some operational structure and mentorship. Bob came onboard as a consultant and brought his robust personality and laughter to the team.

I had never before or have ever since met anyone with Bob's dynamism and passion. Although it is no mystery that Bob's career in Oil and Gas led him around the globe working on projects of enormous scale, I think it would be safe to say that his time working with our staff and clients was a challenge that he took on with as much tenacity as any other venture he was involved with... That just seemed to be 'Bob'...

Although I didn't see him as much as I would have liked once he 'fully retired' to the Okanagan I did enjoy any time we had together. One such time was a quick 'picnic and bottle of wine' in Kelowna. In his typically unselfish manner, he and Joan thought nothing of driving up from Penticton to spend a couple of hours with us at the beach to catch up.

You will be remembered always and always remembered fondly Bob. I am sure you are already working on organizing and streamlining a set of SOPs for Heaven!

We were shocked and heartbroken to hear of Bob's sudden passing. Many customers come through Walla's door, but few touched our lives as Bob did with his intelligent wit and kind heart. He was a real mensch. I always looked forward to seeing him, especially on Saturdays when he often came in carrying his yoga mat to sit down for a coffee and pain au chocolat, and to pick up his weekly Jewish Rye. He was such a generous soul that on one such Saturday he sacrificed his rye for a very disappointed customer who arrived too late to procure one. It was a pleasure to shmooze with him every week, often with others who enjoyed discussing politics, food and travel. We will miss him greatly, and we send our deepest condolences to Joan, his daughters and the entire family. Goodbye dear friend.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers...-Psalms
