Roy COLMER Obituary

COLMER, Roy Robert: Roy Robert Colmer began his life's journey on December 1, 1944, in Windsor, Ontario. That journey ended peacefully in Penticton on December 17, 2025. He was predeceased by his father Roy, mother Mildred, brother Don, first wife Della and baby girl Kelli. He is survived by his wife Joanne, daughter Robin (Kim), son Donnie (Kimberley), daughter Cindy (Mike), son Jamie (Brenda), daughter Jodi (Mike) and son Roy Jr (Rosa), nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren whom he adored. Also, by extended family including nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and so very many good friends. Though Roy tried his hand at a variety of jobs over the years, he settled at Canada Post where he not only made a career but thrived in his positions eventually working up to Superintendent of Kingsville Post Office. Roy and Della shared a life and family together in Ontario for 33 years. After her passing, he moved to Toronto to have many grand adventures with his partner in crime, Cuzzin Bobby. In 2006, Roy moved to Penticton with his granddaughter, Tanya, and her husband, Greg. In true Roy fashion, he was keen and excited to start on a new adventure. Upon learning of the move, he said "let's go", shipped his Jag and took a month-long bike ride to the West. Roy never lost his love and awe of the mountains and lakes. There he met his wife, Joanne, spending the next 18 years together cruising the mountains of BC, travelling, visiting friends and family and living life to the fullest together. As anyone who knew Roy was aware, he was the embodiment of generosity of spirit and sense of life. Love for his fellow man guided Roy throughout his life. He felt that because he was so lucky in his life, he wanted to share his joy with others. For Roy, service to others was an integral part of his life. He volunteered his time and energy for OMRA, Meals on Wheels, Silver Eagles, Scotties curling, triathlons, Christmas hampers and, most of all, being Santa to both children and the elderly. He derived so much joy during these activities and many people whom he met during this time became good friends. Roy's cheerful, friendly and upbeat personality drew people to him instinctively. He made friends everywhere - travelling, delivering meals, riding his bike in the middle of the desert. All seemed to be drawn to him - most especially small children and dogs. In Roy's world, there were no strangers - only friends he hadn't yet met. Such is a testament to a life well-lived. He will be missed. "May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand." The family is planning a Celebration of Life for Roy to be announced later. Our hearts go out to Roy's extended family, many of whom we worked with at Canada Post. Roy had a wonderful sense of humour, enlivening any party or business meeting. We were sorry when he left Windsor but glad he went on to follow his dreams and make more friends. We will miss him.
