Tucker ARMIT Obituary

ARMIT, Tucker Clair: July 9, 1955 - December 19, 2023 With sadness his surviving family advises that Tucker passed away of natural causes. Born to Dr. Conn and Margery Armit in Regina, SK, Tucker graduated Lakeview Public School and Sheldon Williams High School before attending The University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Like many of us who were born in Southern Saskatchewan our real love was in the Qu'Appelle Valley, whether that be with the lovely warm summer breezes or short winter days on the frozen lake. Following a period of time in hotel management at the Calgary Inn, Tucker began a successful and diversified career in the Canadian energy industry, culminating in the establishment of a partnership with long time colleague and friend Doug Krauss. Tucker was much respected by clients and colleagues alike, and leaves friends across the country to reflect on his generous and friendly nature. Tucker was a participant in - and fan of - sports, but mostly a passionate golfer and follower of all things golf. He was especially proud to have a charter membership at the Elbow Springs Golf Course. Sadly predeceased by his parents Conn and Margery of Regina, SK, and laterally West Kelowna, BC, and an older brother Robert in Ottawa, ON. Tucker leaves family including brothers John in Vernon, BC, Jim in Vancouver, BC, and Bill (Debby) of West Kelowna, BC; nephew Eric of Shilo, MB, and niece Irene (Danick and their children Livia and Nolan) of Montreal, QC; sisters-in-law Amelita in Ottawa, ON, and Carol in Regina, Sk. Eric and Irene recall fondly many road trips where Tucker would escort them to new places and sharing stories while visiting their Nana in Kelowna. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your charity of choice. Condolences to the family and friends may also be left at sandscolwood.ca, or by mail to Sands Funeral Chapel - Colwood (317 Goldstream Ave, Victoria, BC, V9B2W4). Tucker's request for a private family service will be held at a later date.

Many days were spent with Tuck during our summers at Katepwa Lake. One of the most common memories was of us sitting together on the deck of Armit´s boat house with brother Bill, after a long day of swimming. On days when it was really hot, Marge provided us with something to drink. As we sat back in our chairs, scanned the lake, we imagined it to be so much larger than it really was. Those were precious carefree times.

As kids together, we explored the valley. Two favourite destinations were the cliffs and dam. Although these were really only a short distance away, back then they seemed like such faraway places. Memories of the swallows swarming in the sky above the steep, clay banks, having fled their many nests upon discovering our presence, were a sight, as were the buffalo fish realizing their folly after being swept over the old wooden dam during spring runoff and their struggle to get back up into the lake. Such a special place.

So many shared adventures and stories. Legend had it the cliffs were once the point where the tribes of the first nations tried to get the buffalo to stampede to during the hunt. And catching a buffalo fish by hand as it tried to swim back up the dam´s slippery spillway was a rite of passage. Tuck was there with us. I recall his fascination and excitement. These were `our´ Huckleberry-type-times together. Tuck, one of the brothers I never had.

Memories endure. The sounds of summer, waves lapping the shoreline, water sparkles glistening. I recall these images and sounds whenever I have difficulty sleeping, calming the mind. We were so fortunate to have shared the experience.

Tuck was the third and youngest member of the Katepwa Trio. And, as I recall, long ago, we really only had one performance, singing "happy anniversary" to my parents one day in August. He performed and gave it his best.

And will always be one of my best friends.

Best wishes to all the Armits,
Jim

So sorry to hear of Tucker´s passing. I had not heard of him in years but he was close to my family when our children were small and we worked together in the energy sector. Sending love and good memories. RIP Tucker.
