Victor BOND Obituary

BOND, Victor Horsley: Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, born on 6th July 1919 in Vulcan, Alberta, died in the Central Okanagan Hospice House at 95 years of age at 2pm, Friday 28th November 2014 surrounded by many of his family. He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Mamie, his children Gloria Gottfried (Jack, Stacie, Peter, Kristjan, Connor), Kelly Jones (Colin Cole), Lee Bond (Will, Matt), his pre-deceased son Wade Bond (Antonio, Tahlia), his step-children Linda Sharp (Trevor), Debbie Sharp, Norma Rae (Marcas, Dustin, Jessica), Donna Henri (Leo, Jason, Evan, Rodney, Tammy), Brian Sharp (Donna, Natalia, Georgia) and his many great-grandchildren. Victor was a proud and hardworking WW2 veteran serving as both a pilot and engineer in the Air Force. He met and married Esther Sinclair after the war and had 4 children. Thirty-five years ago he was fortunate to have met and married Mamie Sharp creating a large blended family. He was energetic and entertaining and was loved by the many people whose lives he touched every day. Victor was well known in Kelowna for walking or riding his bike with Mamie. We will forever miss him and wish him love and peace as he continues on his journey. Victor will be cremated with a celebration of life to be held later in December 2014 with family and close friends. Victor: you and I met briefly, face to face for the first time 4 months ago when I was in Canada but I knew that with your Kelly and my Colin we formed, together, a marvelous extended family.
It gave me great pleasure to know you.

I didn't spend much time with Victor, but feel privileged for the time I did get.

Beneath that fun exterior there was a man that was thoughtful, intelligent wise. The world is a better place for having had him in it.

Victor, It is so hard to believe you are gone; it just seemed like you'd always be there telling your funny stories and jokes, including everyone in your revelry. You were a principled person who seemed unshakable in your convictions; always committed to doing the right thing. You were authentic: “the real deal”; “what you see is what you get” and we just don't have too many of those people around anymore. We will greatly miss you. You were an inspiration to Brian on your daily phone chats. You were a caring step father, father in law and grandpa to us.

Well Victor,
It is consoling to know that you are now in Perpetual Sunshine. You have been at least as much a Buddy to me as a Father In Law. Thank you for all the Great Times, and for the shelter of your Home & Your Love.
Happy Trails until we meet again.

Wishing my heartfelt condolences to Kelly, Gloria, Lee and all the other Bond family members. Victor,(aka 007) will be missed but never be forgotten you have left an huge imprint in our hearts and minds forever. Victor truly was an amazing man a real man a trooper who sacrificed his life as a bomber pilot so we could enjoy our freedom. He was real inspiration to me in so many ways. Victor had some cute saying like "Get With It", "Roger Doger" and so many more catchy little phrases. He was one of a kind and had such a great sense of humor a zest and attitude about life, to be happy! You were a fitness guru and whipped grandma into shape. He loved to dance, and he always had a joke for you, he loved to sing and play his guitar he used to sing "I'm Just An Old Chunk Of Coal But I'll Be A Diamond Some Day" and you are, your wearing your crown and shinning brightly up in heavens with the angels and with God. You loved country music, old time movies and the big band era, especially, "In The Mood"! Everyone loved you and all the people at the Dorchester used to say that you were a ray of sunshine, you brought happiness to everyone even strangers on the street. I have wonderful fond memories of you that will live on...may you rest in peace Victor and when we see you again we will rejoice to be together once again!

I work for the City of Kelowna Parks Department and met Victor around 15 years ago, while he was walking through Waterfront Park. He always remember my name and only stopped for a very ‘quick chat'. It had been a number of years since I saw Victor, but this July I met him going through Knowles Park. I have a keen interest in WW2 aircraft and he relayed some fascinating stories about piloting his Douglas Boston bomber. One where he exceeded the dive speed and had a bit of a scare. I had not heard of the Douglas Boston, so I went home and researched it. I was hoping our paths would cross again, so I could question him some more. I will miss his stories and up beat attitude.

Cheers Victor, may you top the wind swept heights for one last time.
