Wilford Evans Obituary

Evans, Wilford Good: October 10, 1920 - June 22, 2017. Dad died peacefully in Summerland on June 22, 2017 at age 96. He was predeceased by his wife Griselda in 2015. He is survived and will be very much missed by his 4 children: Diddy, Katy, Claudia and James (Marie); his 9 grandchildren: Matthew and Michael EvansCockle, David (Candace) Edgar, Stephanie Edgar, Susan (James) Henderson; Allison (Galen) Edgar, Will (Krystal) Evans and Dustin and Jessica Evans. He is also survived by 8 great grand children: Gillian, Evan, Rorie, Christopher, Benjamin, Ayla, Avina and Mackenzie. Wilford was the first child of Claude and Ethel Evans. He grew up in Summerland and enjoyed a wonderful childhood in the orchard and on the lake, playing sports and attending Summerland Schools. He went to UBC, then studied medicine at the University of Manitoba. He interned at Vancouver General Hospital where he met Griselda who was a nursing student. They married in 1948 and began their family in Vancouver where he set up his medical practice. In 1958 Wilford brought his family home to Summerland, opened his office on Main Street, and built his home on Evans' Point where he grew up. Their son James was born in 1961, a brother for Diddy, Katy and Claudia. Wilf loved being home. He loved his work and his patients. He grew beautiful peaches and a great vegetable garden. He was an avid golfer, a master bridge player and was a fan of many sports. He lived a full life and was much loved by his family, friends and patients. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Dr Andrew Pavillion who took such great care of him and of us in our year and a half spent visiting with dad. There will be no service but please drop in to Diddy's at 10511 Jubilee Street West on July 2, 2017 between 3 and 5 to celebrate and share memories of Wilf.

Loved working with Wilf at WCB in Penticton. He was blunt, humorous, swore like a trooper and fun to work with. Spoke of Griselda as Gris. He was also my first doctor when I moved to the Valley in 76. My condolences to his family. Deb Minhinnick Schramm
