Bruce Gray Obituary

Bruce Franklin Gray

On May 8th, after a brief but courageous bout with cancer and days shy of his 88th birthday, Bruce (a.k.a. Dad, Grandpa, "Paw") bright, engaging, and joking until the end, passed peacefully while listening to his favourite song, "My Way".

A special thank you to the staff on D and F wings, Headwaters Healthcare Centre for their exceptional compassion and care.

He is survived by his long-time love, Helen Fleetham-Bower, his children: Scott (Cheryl Ann), Glenn, Leanne, his grandchildren McKenna, Twoey and Liam, Helen's four sons: Tim (Sue), Philip (Sherry Ann), Jay and Tony and her three grandchildren; Cam, Shayla and Zackary.

A graduate of Victoria College (5T5), his career in HR started at Massey-Ferguson, continued through Cryovac, Reichhold Chemicals and finally Square D/Schneider Electric in senior leadership positions. After retiring, he reunited with Helen, his high school sweetheart, and together they enjoyed many travelling adventures together.

Bruce's hobbies and interests were across the spectrum: a lover of big-band music (Frank & Ella especially), dachshunds, local theatre, Mustangs, Toronto Argonauts, sports car racing (CLRC), and in particular, his cottaging life at Caledon Lake—where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all the water activities. Bruce loved to garden, and was a home brewer for almost 65 years. Of particular pride for him, GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Company recently used a crop of hops from his Caledon Lake garden in a batch of their Porter beer.

"Put your dreams away for another day
And I will take their place in your heart
Wishing on a star never got you far
And so it's time to make a new start"

Over the years we lost contact but we were neighbours on Glengrove. Bruce and my brother Bill rigged up a communication device that ran from upstairs windows.
I moved to Thunder Bay and we lost contact but I will not forget moving to Glengrove when I was about 6 and the little boy next door introducing himself to us as Brucie Frank Gray.
