Joseph Troupe Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of Joseph Daniel (Dan) Troupe, of Prince Albert, SK. Dan passed away at 77 years old after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Dan was born on July 4, 1946 to parents Bill and Pearl Troupe, of Prince Albert. He was the third child in the family of 5, including Elizabeth (Betty), William (Bill), Richard (Rock) and Judith. Dan grew up with his family in Prince Albert, attending Queen Mary Elementary School and later graduating from Prince Albert Collegiate Institute. In his younger years, Dan was active in sports such as ball and hockey, and he played on the Shellbrook Elks hockey team for a time. Troupe family summers were spent at the cabin at Emma Lake where Dan enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing and time with friends. The family also took trips out to BC to visit Grandma Troupe, who resided there.
Dan went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and History from the University of Saskatchewan from 1968-1972. Early on in his career, Dan worked in retail men's wear clothing, including Ted Matheson's Men's Wear, and later on started his own business, Dan Troupe Men's Wear, in two different locations in Prince Albert. Dan liked to dress his best, and he enjoyed helping others do this as well in his retail locations. After his store closed, Dan joined Investors Group Financial Services, where he worked with a number of clients over the years, later retiring from this company.
For the last two decades, Dan was a part of the team at the Prince Albert SPCA, where he spent countless hours in a variety of roles, including Board Chair, Board Member, and Volunteer. He was a huge support for the animals, the staff, and the entire shelter. He took part in the planning and organization of a number of fundraisers and was an avid spokesperson for the organization.
Dan was devoted to his community; he loved Prince Albert, and he took great interest in the city's history and local politics. Early on, Dan volunteered with DeMolay and also the Prince Albert Kinsmen, where he took part in the very first TeleMiracle.
If you knew Dan, you know that he loved his dogs, especially his Golden Retrievers. Dan always had a loyal dog (or two) by his side, and he developed strong bonds with his 'boys'. He also loved to read about and watch hockey, especially his Vancouver Canucks.
Dan had a close circle of good friends and a large group of acquaintances, colleagues, and clients. He was well known and respected in his community and will be dearly missed.
Dan is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Pearl Troupe, brother Richard Troupe, sister Judith Troupe, brother-in-law, Warren Montgomery, niece Michelle Montgomery Sharp, and nephews Rod Montgomery and Rob Troupe. He is survived by his sister Betty Montgomery of Vernon, BC, brother Bill (Gina) Troupe of Dalmeny, SK, nieces Terri (Adam) Logue and Cheryl (Harley) Strouts of Saskatoon, SK, niece Cathy (Jim Mertion) Montgomery of Vernon, BC, Joe Montgomery of Calgary, AB, David (Pam) Montgomery of Grande Prairie, AB., and Dianne Brown of Red Deer, AB. Dan was Uncle to many grand nieces and nephews who he enjoyed spending time with (Michael, Janelle, Dillon, Chris, Suzanne, Robin, Carina, Alex, Adrian, and Keeler).
The family will be holding a small private ceremony at a later date. Donations in memory of Dan can be made to the Prince Albert SPCA. Condolences can be sent to Dan's family at Gray's Funeral Chapel, Prince Albert, SK (www.arbormemorial.ca)
