Joyce "Joy" Emily Crosby (nee Dauncey) passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2025, at the age of 89 (22 ¼ birthdays old), following a brief stay in hospital after suffering a fall. She is predeceased by her husband. Bing (2011) and her youngest daughter Wanda (2016). Sister to David and the late Nevaida, Raymond, Delmer and Dorothy.
A leap-year baby, Joy was born to Elmer and Florence (Ruby) Dauncey, in Bethune SK on February 29th, 1936. The family moved north to Star City SK when she was 11. Joy left home for Montreal in her mid-teens where she worked as a hostess for the Miss Montreal Restaurant and did some modeling on the side. In Montreal, she met and married William "Bing" Crosby in April 1955. In the early days of their marriage, she "held down the fort" while Bing was flying with the RCAF. Creative in the ways of thrift, and a capable seamstress, the family enjoyed a lifestyle beyond their means and the children were always dressed in the latest fashion.
Life in the Military was an adventure with many cross-Canada postings. Throughout her years, she was an accomplished curler, winning countless bonspiels as the Skip for her teams. Joy was a "Shoe Buyer" for CANEX in Greenwood NS in the 70's and a Base telephone operator in Edmonton AB and Greenwood in the 80's. She was a 22-caliber rifle marksman when she was in her 20s, which proved useful when moose hunting in the 1970's. She bagged a bull moose while Bing was away from their camp, searching for moose tracks. She was a feisty lady of many accomplishments. She was determined not to let technology leave her behind, learning how to use a computer in the mid 90's. Her hobbies included quilting and sewing with her digital embroidery machine. Her iphone and ipad were never far from her side. She was a loving mom, grandmother and great grandmother, who celebrated life, loved to laugh and dance (particularly the polka).
She will be greatly missed by her children, Linda (Leo), Deb (Donna) and Gary (Marie), her nine grandchildren Tim (Amy), Meghann (Ryan), Daniel (Taucha), Mathiew (Shannon), Bria (Alex), Lisa (Deric), Joe (Jill), Natasha, and David (Victoria) and 15 great grandchildren.
A celebration for Joy will take place at a later date. Online condolences at www.weaverfuneralhomes.comPublished by Prince Albert Daily Herald on Jan. 22, 2026.
