Sister Raymonde Ouelette Obituary
Sr. Raymonde Ouellette was born on October 18, 1931, in the little village of Laventure, Saskatchewan. Since education was important to the Ouellette family, Raymonde attended her first years of schooling in North Creek until a school was established in Laventure, which she attended for five years. At that time the family decided to sell the farm and move to St. François-Xavier in Manitoba where she had her first experience with religious women.
On their return to Saskatchewan in 1947, Raymonde went to boarding school in Marcellin, SK, where she met the Sisters of the Presentation and decided to join the Order in 1950. Returning from the Noviciate in St. Hyacinthe, QC, in 1953 Sr. Raymonde started her career in teaching both in Manitoba and Sask. In 1967, Sr. Raymonde was asked to assist in the formation program just opening in Saskatoon. Ever the teacher, Sr. Raymonde returned to the classroom from 1973 to 1992. She then moved to Prince Albert where she was of service to her sisters.
Sr. Raymonde had opportunities to pursue her studies in theology and spirituality by attending courses in Ottawa, and Arn Prior, Ontario. In 1999, Sr. Raymonde was named Provincial Superior of the sisters of Prince Albert, where she served in that capacity for the next six years with great dedication, enthusiasm and wisdom. She was a woman of faith, and a community builder. After completing her term as Provincial Sr. Raymonde lived a few years in Winnipeg and then Bellevue. Returning to Prince Albert in 2011 she did prison ministry at the Prince Albert Penitentiary while being of service to her Sisters. In 2017 as her health was declining she moved to the Personal Care Home of the Sisters. Sr. Raymonde will be remembered for being a woman of the Church and a true daughter of St. Marie Rivier.
