Anka Vukovic Obituary

My mom, Anka Vukovic, passed away December 14, 2016, one day before her 85th birthday. Born in Birtovi (Plascica, Croatia), Anka was the daughter of the late Stipe and Marica Drazenovic, and sister to predeceased siblings Stipe, Miko, Maria, Kate, Mande, and baby brother Mate. She is survived by her cherished daughter Marica (Vlado), grandchildren Julie (Laurence), Joanna (Mark), Rose, Matt, and Maggie, great-grandchildren Matt, Veronica, Jure, and Diana, and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, and family across Canada and Croatia. Mom moved to Canada in 1970 to build a new life with her daughter. She is forever indebted to Helen and the late Zeljko Milos for sponsoring their immigration and could never give enough thanks to the Milos family for her happy and full life. Mom called Canada home, and she showed her gratitude by sponsoring her brother Mate and his young family to join her in 1971. Mom worked hard until her retirement. She loved her garden (she had the best peas in PG), knitting (she has extra slape if anyone needs a pair), and most of all, feeding her friends and family. She was never too tired to make homemade pizza, chipse, or moonie cookies for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Baba to everyone, she gave hugs and love freely, but she lived for her daughter. In her final days, nothing brought her more comfort than holding Marica's hand. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 20th 10 am, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, followed by a graveside service at Memorial Cemetery Park and celebration of Anka's life in the Sacred Heart auditorium. A viewing will be held Monday, December 19th, 7pm, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mom, you were my foundation, my mom and my dad, you taught me to be strong, you gave me all your love and support. Everything you did was for me; I am who I am because of you. I love you forever.
