Eric graduated from UBC Medical School in 1966 and after completing his internship at Royal Columbian Hospital served as a Medical Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces HQ, Allied Forces Central Europe, Brunssum, The Netherlands. From 1970 through to 2009 he devoted himself to General Practice in Prince George and the Greater Vancouver area. Eric also was a volunteer at Saint John Ambulance and from 1994 to 1996 served as the Provincial Medical Officer for SJA Brigade. In 1997 he was invested as a member of The Order of Saint John. Eric was loved by his patients, colleagues and co-workers as a compassionate and caring physician. To his family and friends he was kind, gentle and caring. He was a humble man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for medicine and business. He was known for his sharp, playful humour that was never at someone else's expense. He had a lifelong love of reading and learning and was never more content than sitting with a good book in hand whether at home or in beautiful locations around the world. Special thanks go out to his colleagues and co-workers at the BCCA in Abbotsford for helping to make his final years in practice so satisfying and to Dr. Valerie Masuda and the Palliative Care Team in Duncan for their incredible care and support over the past year. My condolences to the family. Eric was one of the best Doctors I have had. Such a pleasant soul. I was his client when he had an office in Sinclair Centre. He sold that practice and his clients to a new Doctor. I was looking to change Doctors and was looking for his current practice today, when I came across his memorial page. Condolences to his family and friends.

Dr. Gable was a doctor of mine back in the 90's at the North road clinic on Coquitlam. I have never met a finer physician in my entire life. As well as his passion and caring for others there was none better. We had many interesting conversations over the years and I was unaware he had moved.
I regret not staying in touch with him. He
will be sorely missed.

To all the Gable family and especially to Heather who was indeed the love of his life - I am deeply sorry for your loss of Eric.

I have known Eric since our Royal Columbian days (1966) and in his general practice in Prince George. Most people will not be aware that Eric was a professional trailblazer, establishing the role of a nurse practitioner in the late 60's to enhance the care of patients in his practice. This started the movement in BC. I was that nurse practitioner and I have never since experienced a more professionally generous, respectful, compassionate physician. Egoless and able to work in partnership with medical colleagues and patients alike. The best example of a family doctor ever.

He was that way in his personal life too. Unmatched humour. Generous, caring, loyal, especially with those he loved. And especially with his family.

What a wonderful legacy Eric has left and what warm memories we will all have.

It is with a heavy heart, we say goodbye to Eric. We are so very sorry for your loss Heather, Gord, and Lori and family. We loved getting to know Eric over the past 20 years and he was always lovely and so interesting to talk to. We are especially grateful for the time he took to love my girls. Regan and Alexa always got a hug, warm lap and a cuddle when they saw him at Sheree & Gords. He was so great with kids and never seemed board or tired talking with them. Eric's personality was so calming and strait to the point and knew exactly what to say. I once called him stressed out about an infection that my baby daughter had when she was born. First night home from the hospital, and I had to call Dr. Gable at 11 pm at night for medical advice. He calmed me down and told me exactly what to do. I was so grateful he didn't mind me calling so late. Eric was very kind to my sister and I think loved having her as his daughter in law. He loved his children and family. Eric will be missed by all who knew him.
