Jean Little Obituary

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Jean Dearing Little (nee Butterworth) on April 10, 2013 in Prince George, B.C. Jean was born on Dec. 22, 1924 in Edmonton where she grew up and later married her soul mate and life partner, Meldrum Wells Little. They lived in Edmonton, Weyburn, SK and Prince George, before retiring to Nanaimo. Friends and family were a priority to them both, and Jean especially loved preparing delicious meals for all to enjoy. Jean spent the last years of her life in Prince George. She will be fondly remembered by those close to her as a generous, loving, funny and spirited woman who always rooted for the underdog. Jean leaves behind her two children: Scott Little (Ashia); Denise Little (Ian), and grandchildren: Jaden, Maya and Naraa. Jean was also blessed in her later days by the wonderful care and companionship of Margaret, Brenda, Sharon and Maureen. We take comfort in knowing that Jean is in a higher place now, and in the arms of her loving husband, Mel. Memorial arrangements are being made by the family and will be announced at a later date. Dear Denise and Scott,
I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. It is hard to accept even when we know it is inevitable.
Your mom had a strong personality, with strong opinions that I didn't always share, but I will always remember the twinkle in her eye, and her warmth and welcome towards me.
I admired her sense of style, and shared her appreciation for good food.
I remember traveling with Auntie Jean from Neilburg to Lloydminster some years ago, and thinking how her artist's sensibility was revealed in her observations of colour and composition in the landscape as we drove. Her paintings were wonderful - a copy of her portrayal of my dad still glowers very life-like on my wall.
All my love to you and your families.

I have very fond memories of going to Denise's house and Mrs. Little would invite me for dinner. It was my first experience of gourmet eating. She taught me the place setting a salad fork, etc. My first caesar salad and lobster comes to mind. She would come along on the ski trips but I don't remember her skiing. Another first for me. The Little family was like a second family for me and experiences I would not have had otherwise. My heart goes out to my former best friend and always a friend Denise. She and Dr. Little will always be in my heart. But comfort in knowing she is back with her soul mate and reconnecting with others dear to us.
