Jeanne Neilson Obituary

Jeanne (Jean) Neilson

January 30, 1950 - March 10, 2024

It is deeply saddening to announce the passing of Jeanne Patricia Neilson, aged 74. She passed away peacefully on the 10th of March, 2024, in the loving care of Bill Neilson and under the excellent care of Community Nursing.

Jean is survived by Bill, her husband and best friend of more than 50 years and their cats Shoko and Tyebe. Jean lived a busy and successful life travelling around B.C. with Bill on his construction jobs. In 1980, they landed in Prince George, B.C. She went back to school and on to CNC to get an associate degree in Criminology. Jean worked for Kitso Yoh and other support groups until her Arthritis became too overwhelming. Jean, in retirement, enjoyed travelling to visit friends.

I met Jeanne virtually through the Cat Blogosphere. when I was a new participant and blogger, she reached out and lent a helping hand. she was one of the first person s to reach out when I was shy and nervous as a newcomer. She even wrote an article about my cats and me! I will always remember her for her welcoming attitude and warmth and enthusiasm.

Like so many others, we came across Jean's blog and loved it from the start. The power of words and images is so very strong, and Jean's humour and goodness shone a light across the globe as well as the internet of cats. Jean's caring life created such good karma, and we feel, as Buddhists, that her new life will be one most magical and rewarding. To Bill, Tyebe and Shoko, we offer our deepest condolence; but know Jean will never be far away and that we are all destined to meet again. Until then do celebrate the good she gave and left for you.

I met Jean thru our love of cats. We both were proud cat bloggers giving our beloved cats a voice. Jean created a wonderful fantasy life thru The Crotchet Cougars. A frisky bunch I´d senior female cats going on virtual cruises, having tea parties. Our cats were the feline red hat society. Jean was jovial, fun and a friend to all.

We, like many of Jeanne's friends, never met as we are scattered around the world but we are bound by a connection of love and respect for cats (and some dogs!)

The pleasure she gave through The Canadian Cats blog is immense and I hope that Bill knows the high regard and love that Jeanne is still held in by us all.

Jean became a friend, virtually, through out shared love of our kitty-cats ... our joy of blogging about them and sharing that fun with others. She was a lovely, kind, humorous and generous woman. Deep condolences to her beloved husband, Bill ... may she rest peacefully, forever.
