Luke Armstrong Obituary

Danial Luke Armstrong (June 28, 1990- September 30, 2022)
It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the sudden death of Luke Armstrong from an accidental drug overdose.
Luke was a creative, bright, and charming young man who made an impression on everyone he met. He loved to snowboard, unicycle, juggle, and bike. He was a daredevil and a risk taker and lived life on the edge. He was determined to control his own destiny and live his life on his own terms. In spite of debilitating mental illness, Luke faced challenges with remarkable creativity and optimism.
Luke was unique! A common expression about Luke was, "He is the first person to ever..." This applied to filling a car full of water when he was young, smoking marijuana in the seclusion room of the psych ward, riding the Greyhound bus without a ticket by charming the bus driver, finding the phone number for the air ambulance and arranging for it to come and get him as he was tired of waiting in the hospital, and having a judge allow him to speak without standing or putting his hand up. (He was requesting that the next time he was in court that he could go first because it was hard for him to wait all day.) Luke was forward-looking and always had some scheme on the go. We miss him so much!
He was predeceased by his father, Danial Reid Armstrong, his aunt Diane, and his two grandfathers. He is deeply loved by his surviving relatives, who include his mother, Elda, stepfather Pat, brother Ben, his two grandmothers, and numerous other relatives.
We would like to thank the many, many friends and professionals who supported Luke and his family to deal with his illness over the years. A very special thanks to Tim Peters.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salvation Army or St. Vincent de Paul's. A memorial service is planned for a later date.

This was a disappointing find. I always thought I´d run into Luke again, but I see he was quite busy being the first at many things!

To great memories in your backyard, in the gaming hut, and at school. I was a timid kid and one way or another you pushed me to conquer some fears (including jumping off the roof barns into snow piles!). You were a dear friend growing up.

Wishing the rest of the Armstrong family peace. So sorry for your loss.

We have many fond memories of Luke and are so deeply sad upon hearing of his tragic death. Our times at Norman Lake with Luke and his family are very special to us. Luke had exceptional balance, and could ride a wake board with skill and flourish. He and our son Graeme had a special relationship, one that revolved around having fun and exploration of many varieties. Together, they would paddle across the lake to try all manner of water transportation. We are grateful to have known Luke and for the joy and fun he added to our lives during those years.

Luke, we shared so many bike rides together! Member when both our moms would take us to Cottonwood Island Park. The trails were so beautiful (according to our Mom's), but, we found the cool jumps that the trees left us! Watching the Salmon below our feet! Playing in your big back yard, not to mention the cool log home that you lived in (we had so much fun playing upstairs!)! You will always be remembered, and never forgotten! Love you, Luke! Luke, you were definitely one of a kind, always creative and resourceful in finding ways to get your needs met and maneuver your way in this world. You certainly were challenged in this life, and it wasn't easy for you. I wish I could have advocated, supported and been there more for you. Unfortunately my own circumstances and travel distance were limiting but you were always loved and in my heart and prayers. I hope you are at peace and now and reunited with family that went before you and loved you dearly. Elda, Pat and Ben and family I wish you all peace, strength and support now and in the days ahead
