Born in Vernon, Ron's family moved to Prince George during WWII. Ron co-founded and was president and managing director of a communications network of radio and cablevision companies stretching from Smithers to Prince George and 100 Mile House.

He was named broadcaster of the year in 1976 by the BCAB and served a three year term as a director of the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance. He was a director of the Prince George Symphony Society and the Prince George Community Foundation. Ron was very proud to be a founding member of the group who obtained the Charter for the University of Northern BC. Ron was presented with a Queen's 50th Jubilee medal for his many accomplishments.

Condolences to Helen and family in the loss of a kind and generous man. I served on the Prince George Community Foundation Board shortly after it was founded and was welcomed and mentored by Ron. Ron gave so much to our non profit community organizations and more. RIP Ron

I was saddened to learn of Ron's passing. His broadcasting roots are deep in Prince George. When I agreed to take over management roles at CKPG Radio and TV in 1973, I quickly learned that Ron was a formidable competitor and very capable broadcaster. I learned from him. I admired his commitment to community. I had the good fortune to have collaborated with Ron on a variety of projects that merited support from both local radio stations. Always a kind and respectful gentleman, Ron was and will be remembered as a class act.

Heartfelt condolences to Helen and all your family members.
The leadership I experienced as an employee of CKPG Radio & TV in the 1960's due to Ron East's vision and integrity was memorable. Stan Davis, Bob Harkins, JWC Barlee, Mike Thornthwaite, Terry, Bert in Traffic, JWC Barlee radio sales, Ab Wiebe & Ann King, copy, Fred, Cliff, Helen Smith, and more are the names of the day for those times. Ron East's contributions to the concept and development of broadcasting are memorable. God bless his soul and comfort his family, friends, co-workers, & companions.
