Grant MCNAB Obituary

Ian (Grant) McNab, a son, brother, uncle and father passed away on January 25, 2021 at the age of 62 years. Grant was born in Powell River B.C. on July 29,1958 to John James (Scotty) and Italina McNab. Grant was predeceased by his father in 1977. Grant leaves behind his daughter Catherine (James), mother Italina, two sisters Johanna and Carol (Dan), niece Amanda (Thorin), nephew Bryce (Heidi) and great-nephews Luke and Austin "those boys", two Aunt's Maria Ciarniello, Anita (Bill) Osborne and cousins Alanna (Ken), Erin (Devin) and their families. Grant had a "bucket list" and these are a few of the things he crossed off: to search, locate and compile the McNab Family tree. Following years of many emails, phone calls and registry searches he located his cousin, Gordon in South Africa and cousin, Christine and other family members in England. He travelled to South Africa to meet Gordon, whom he became very close with, and travelled the country and enjoyed a Safari tour. He cycled through parts of Europe, traveled around England and met Christine and other McNab family relatives. He also travelled to Serbia.

A special thanks to Sarah, for her kindness and compassion through Grant's difficult year and who helped him through his final days. Sarah, you are a true Guardian Angel. Thank you to the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their exceptional care and treatment. In lieu of flowers the family asks that in Grant's memory donations be made to Diabetes Canada. A private gathering will be held at a later date. As Grant would do, pour yourself a glass of red wine and Salute! Rest in Peace Grant, you fought a hard battle.

Grant I always loved you ; I'm sorry I didn't realize how much sooner. We should have been a couple years ago when you offered that to me. You have been a wonderful, caring, lifelong friend; always keeping in touch with me and checking on me even when I worked in the Middle East.
You could always make me laugh and reassure me that everything was going to be okay.
I hope you are having lots of fun in heaven and you are at peace. Many people are missing you; I miss you terribly, many hugs and kisses. If Cimba is there with you give him a hug for me.
Rest in peace my love. Until we meet again.

I am so sad to learn of Grant's death. He was first our neighbor, and then quickly our friend when we lived on Walter Avenue in the early 2000s. I have very happy memories of us all gathering at Grant's house on his deck for BBQs, and our kids playing together daily. After we all moved from "the hood" we still kept on touch and would see each other periodically. Grant helped Kelsey and I buy our first home, and as a trusted friend, he guided us along helping us with our financial investments as well. He always kept in touch and we will miss his great sense of humor and his kind and caring way. I am holding my glass of red wine and toasting to a life well lived. It was a pleasure knowing you Grant, cheers!

I’m so sorry to hear about Grant’s passing. He was one of the downtown Y’s most faithful members. Grant spoke with such love of his daughter and had a twinkle in his eye when he talked about his adventures. He was taken too soon. Grant you will be missed. Dave and Leslie Lloyd

Grant will be missed ~ he was always happy and fun to be around. He was our financial advisor as well as a friend. Knew him from Powell River when we were young and caught up with him in Victoria. Too young and too much left to do. Rest in peace, Grant, and you betcha we'll salute you with a glass of red wine! Kirk and Janet Whiteway

Grant was truly 'one of a kind' and a great friend. I lived with him, through some wild parties, in his house, in Powell River.
When I accepted a job offer in Victoria, Grant thought nothing of helping me move; driving his truck and pulling a trailer from PR to Victoria. That's the kind of friend anyone would be blessed to have.
Although we weren't as close, as I would have liked, over the last few years, I still knew that you would be at my door, in a jiffy if I needed help.
I was blessed to have Grant as a friend and I'm a better man for having known him.
Rest for a bit, old friend. You've earned it.

Grant always brought a bright light to the YMCA spin class. He loved the song Thunderstuck which I still dedicate to this day to him. The class loves it. He loved the wine and cheese rides we did at the Y. Grant went the extra mile for the YMCA with his energy and wit. I miss him

We are very sad to hear of Grant’s passing. We enjoyed our impromptu visits when we ran into him when we were in Victoria. I remember the times he spent at his nonna and nonna’s house when we were children in Wildwood. Nonna always called him Sweet Pea. Our condolences to all the family

Grant and I grew up on the same street barely a block apart. Although we had not seen much of each other over the last several years we were in touch . I remember him as having a sometime gruff exterior but but to those that knew him he was obviously a man with a big heart who loved his family and his friends. so sad. RIP Grant

I am deeply saddened by this news. Grant was such a great guy. He looked after my grandmothers and my accounts for many years. We were friends as well and I looked forward to our periodic lunch dates. He will be deeply missed and his "Ha Ha" laugh will echo in my mind whenever I think of our many humorous conversations ...may his spirit be cycling to everywhere he ever wanted to explore... good bye for now Romeo

Grant was a competitive guy. We faced off many times in the squash court and had some great battles back in the day. When he worked for us at Black Press, he made friends quickly and helped our business magazine move forward. He had a great laugh and loved to laugh.
You could tell Grant was good father and loved his daughter. His eyes lit up when he spoke about her.
I am sorry I didn't stay in touch bud over the past couple of years. You were a good friend and I will miss you.

Grant could make me laugh! When I lived in Victoria he and I shared many miles together on our bikes. These rides always ended with a frosty beverage. He will be missed.
