Walt Mikkelsen passed away suddenly at his home in Powell River in the early hours of October 10. Son of Johannes Mikkelsen and his wife Kristine (nee Henriksen), both deceased, Walt is predeceased by his wife Marie Florence Rose Anna (Florence, nee Grandmont) and his son Paul and is survived by his two daughters Karen Eger (Scott) of Edmonton, AB, and Susan of Kitchener, ON.
Walt was born near Winnipeg, MB, and moved to Powell River as a young boy. He was serving with the RCAF in Winnipeg when he met Florence. They married in 1955 and moved frequently within Canada until, with three young children, they settled in Manitoba. While there, Walt worked for Bristol Aerospace, and in 1978, they moved to Powell River, and he worked at (then) MacMillan Bloedel until retirement.
Walt was a longtime member of the Powell River Rod & Gun Club, serving in various capacities and enjoying competitions. He also enjoyed woodworking.
