Michael Traves Obituary
Michael Charles John Traves Michael Charles John Traves passed away peacefully in Powell River on February 18, 2022, at the age of 78. He was born in Winchester, England, on October 19, 1943, and will be remembered as a loving dad, granddad, brother, uncle and loyal friend. Mike is survived by his daughter Rebecca (David) and his much-loved grandchildren (Danielle and Jordan), his English family including his lovely sister Frankie (Dave), nephew Jeremy (Ai Chan) and niece Sarah (Jason), great-nieces and great-nephews (Tom, Hannah, Rio and Indie), the Rimmer family including nephews Steven (Karen) and Kevin, and also Jo (Tom and Grace). Mike spent his younger years in Singapore, Mombasa and Nairobi, as his dad was in the civil service. After his return to England, he immigrated to Canada in 1966 and completed his journeyman electrician training. Mike's electrical career included 31 years with BC Hydro, which took him from the Lower Mainland to Bella Coola, Terrace and finally Powell River, where he spent 35 years in a community that brought him much joy. Mike created many great memories with all the Sunshine Coast had to offer from gardening, fishing, hiking, Jeep 4x4 off-road adventures and biking Inland Lake. He was so fortunate to spend his time surrounded by "good people" who became family. Special friends include Jim and Betty Rae, Brock and Liz Davidson, Elke Sager, Ingrid Armstrong, Mark and Sue Biagi, Shirley Fulton and Phil Bedard. His online gaming and train building community was also very important to him, including Geoff Harrison, Ken Coulter, Christopher (Raelynne) Hillius and Jeannine Brandall. Mike had wonderful neighbours and an active bible study group that brought him much comfort. A very special thank-you to Holly Larkin, who took such great care of him and was a cherished friend. Mike lived his life surrounded by those who loved him and will be dearly missed but never forgotten. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, March 19, at the Anglican Church (6310 Sycamore Street). In lieu of flowers, please donate to the WRA (Wildlife Rescue Association of BC), as Mike loved all creatures great and small. "We will love you always."
