Robert Profitt Obituary

Robert Sydney Profitt May 17, 1931 - January 23, 2022 Our dear father, Syd, passed away after a two-year stay at Willingdon Creek Village care home. He was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Lorna, spouse Nellie, son Rob and his sister Lois Mathews. He is survived by daughters Debbie Richardson (Jack) and Sandy Profitt, grandchildren Carmen, Sheila (Luke), J.J., and Kendall (Dakotah), as well as nieces and nephews. He adored his three beautiful great-grandchildren Jade, Jack and Sisi. Dad was a calm, caring, patient and hardworking man. Born and raised in Powell River, he lived on Maple Avenue, where he boasted he knew everyone in the Townsite. The zunga was popular then. Unfortunately, for Syd, he acquired his signature nose after an unsuccessful three-point landing. He loved his life in Powell River and all it had to offer: hunting, fishing and most of all spending quality time with the family at Goat Villa up the lake. Dad enjoyed his role at the Lions Club. He spent many years working with the hydro crews lighting up Marine Avenue for Christmas and this became a family tradition as they became experts at changing the light bulbs. He was an electrician by trade in his father's longtime business, Westview Electric, where he worked alongside his late son Rob. His hobbies included boat building the Thunderbird and gardening, and he proudly grew the best vegetables for family enjoyment. His berries and fruit trees were abundant. His genuine smile was infectious. Dad's sense of humour and quick wit and timely "Syd-isms" will be lovingly remembered forever: "It's only perfect, but it will have to do." Syd was so appreciative of his family, home caregivers "pill police," with special thanks to Rick and Jela, also the Willingdon Creek Village staff. A gathering of close family and friends will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of choice is appreciated. "Thanks for a swell time, Dad."
