Troy Fredrick Woodburn Thorsell Gerlock
February 29, 1976 - April 12, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Troy Fredrick Woodburn Thorsell Gerlock. Born on February 29, 1976, at Nanaimo Regional Hospital.
Troy, a leap year baby, infused joy and laughter into the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Troy leaves behind his beloved children, Saige and Mateo; his devoted mother, Julie (Greg); his father, Fred Thorsell (Betty); his step-father, Gord Gerlock (Shannon); his half-sister, Ashlee (Ray); his step-siblings, Patrick (Jodi), Sarah (Serkan), and Charlie; as well as his cherished nephews and nieces. He will be fondly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom were touched by his kind heart and infectious humour.
Despite facing numerous challenges from a young age, Troy approached life with remarkable resilience, always maintaining a gentle smile and quick wit. Known for his sweet nature, kindness and willingness to help others, he effortlessly endeared himself to those around him. His mission in life was to uplift spirits and spread joy wherever he went.
Troy embodied compassion and acceptance, embracing others without judgment and with profound empathy. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his spirit and the lasting impact he had on our lives. His legacy of love, laughter and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Dufferin Place and Bill's Place for the unwavering care and support they provided to Troy over the years. Their kindness and love have been deeply cherished.
A celebration of Troy's life will take place from 1 to 5 pm at the Nanaimo Yacht Club on Friday, May 3, 2024, located at 400 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Nanaimo Brain Injury Society would be greatly appreciated.
