Victor Chatt Obituary

Victor Percy Chatt May 31, 1933 - February 16, 2022 Victor Percy Chatt passed away in his 88th year peacefully and surrounded by family in Powell River. Whether Vic was a dear friend or simply someone you met once out on a walk or in the grocery store, undoubtedly, he left a deep impression on you. Charming and quick-witted, with a generous spirit and heart, he was often described as a rare kind of person. Vic spent his formative (and of course, adventuresome) years as a child growing up in Ocean Falls, BC, where he helped to put the small town on the map for producing highly skilled and competitive swimmers. It was there that he met his first wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Taylor. Vic and Betty went on to have two children, Dean and Tracy Chatt. As a steam engineer, Vic worked all over BC, travelling to pulp mills across the province. His career took him to many far-off magical places, including Africa and Fort William, Scotland, where the family stayed for many years. He spent the final days of his career in Quesnel, BC. Sadly, Betty passed away in 1983. As two community-minded people in Quesnel, Vic met Barbara Bodman and they later married, joining the Chatt family to the Bodman family, kids Ian, Anne (Baker), Eric and Graham. Vic retired shortly after, and the two set out to enjoy retirement to the fullest, travelling the world and being highly involved in their local community, a value the two shared deeply. Sadly, Barb passed away in 2014. Vic then moved to Powell River to spend the final chapter of his joy-filled life with a beautiful ocean view and stunning sunsets, continuing his devotion to swimming, and of course, mercilessly destroying anyone who dared to play his favourite board game, S.O.B. Vic's favourite, however, was having family gather together. He left us all with a tremendous vision for a well-lived and well-loved life. Vic requested to not have a funeral. If you feel moved to honour his life, please consider a donation to Parkinson Society BC at parkinson.bc.ca.
