In Loving Memory of Bill Gariepy
September 7, 1951 – October 6, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bill Gariepy. With the compassionate support of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), Bill departed peacefully, surrounded by his beloved wife Marilynne, his cherished cat Bella, and a room filled with family and lifelong friends.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Bill was the third son of Edmund and Maud Gariepy. His early years were spent in Germany Rivers, Manitoba, and Richmond, where he formed enduring friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Bill devoted 35 years to the fire service, retiring with honour as Captain. He was a true hero - saving lives, fighting fires, and building strong bonds with his fellow firefighters, a brotherhood and sisterhood that became his second family.
Beyond his career, Bill was a Golden Gloves boxer, a passionate golfer, and a steadfast friend. His integrity, generosity, and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him, and his absence will be profoundly felt.
Bill is survived by his brother Mike (Marge), nieces Kelly (James), Kimberly (Kory), and nephew Daryl (Dawna). He was predeceased by his parents, brother Bob, and sister-in-law Marsha.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bill's memory to Parkinson Society British Columbia.
A Memorial Service will be held at Richmond Funeral Home, located at 8420 Cambie Road, on Thursday, October 30th at 1:00 PM.
Overflow parking will be available at The Church in Richmond, located at 4460 Brown Road.
The Memorial Service will be live-streamed. Please visit
