Born October 26, 1963 in Christchurch, New Zealand; died of a rare clear-cell metastatic ovarian cancer, in the Comox Valley on October 16, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Greg Oksanen, and their daughters Cate and Oona Wareing-Oksanen of Comox, as well as her mother, Sheila, and sisters Susan and Sarah, and predeceased by her father, Richard, all of North Vancouver. She leaves four nieces and many cousins in Canada and New Zealand. Jane moved with her family to Canada in 1968 and grew up in North Vancouver, graduating from Carson Graham Secondary and Simon Fraser University. In 1989, Jane moved to Campbell River to teach French. In 1990, she and Greg married, and after living in Saratoga Beach for several years, settled in Comox. In 2006, they opened Living Room Pharmacy. Jane was proud of designing the store, its website, and publicity, and sourcing its boutique products. Jane’s passions were her children, photography, gardening, and travel with Greg and the girls. The family traveled in New Zealand, France, Morocco, the American south-west, BC and Canada. She considered her children her proudest accomplishment, and her greatest regret was not being able to see them grow older. Thanks to all the special people who provided support throughout the last two years. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in memory of Jane to Kus-kus-sum – Project Watershed (
