Robert FENYO Obituary

FENYO, Robert Karl 1937-2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Fenyo on September 17, 2013 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Robert passed away peacefully at North Shore hospice with his family by his side in his final days. His life was an adventure filled with love, curiosity, challenges and hardships. He was a deeply devoted and romantic husband, inspirational father who instilled strong values in his children and dear friend to many. He will be fondly remembered by his sons John & Nicholas, daughter Mercedes and wife Connie, along with his friends, nieces, nephews, god-daughters and in-laws. We will miss his engaging stories, political opinions, risqué jokes, quick wit, Hungarian cooking and his perspective captured in pictures. Robi had the unique gift of making instant connections with others through his humor and love of travel, F1 racing, nature and photography. He was a charming, passionate, adventurous Hungarian who loved life. Our family's deepest thanks go to Dr. Paul Sugar and the team of caring and capable nurses at the North Shore Hospice. As Robert wished, cremation will be taking place and there will be no funeral service held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Robert's name to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation earmarked for the North Shore Hospice. My late husband, Csaba, and Robi were best friends. They were like brothers.

When I first met Csaba and Robi almost fifty years ago, I quickly realized the amazing bond they shared. They truly had a friendship like no other I had seen before, or since. They become friends during their teens in Budapest, escaped together to Canada in 1956, and their incredible connection lasted until Csaba's death in 2002.

My two daughters, Deanna and Michelle loved their Uncle Robi very much. Robi was Michelle's Godfather. The girls truly appreciated the warmth and hospitality offered to them during their recent visits to Vancouver. They were honored to be treated as a part of the family, and despite their Uncle's illness, had a wonderful time learning more about their Dad's early years through Robi's wonderful stories. They take comfort in knowing that Robi and their Dad are together again, and more than likely up to their old shenanigans.

Personally, I feel it's the end of an era that I'll cherish and look back on fondly. Robi played a huge role in the landscape of my life. The countless wonderful memories would fill volumes. Robi was always such a gentleman and a wonderful friend to me. How fortunate and blessed we are to have had such a special person share our lives for so many years. We will all miss him deeply.

Love and big hugs to Connie, Mercedes, John and Nick.

Robert, my "big brother", has been a important part of my life for over 30 years. In those years we had many wonderful adventures and shared great moments. He was our best man at our wedding. Together we enjoyed being parents and helping our children grow into the wonderful people they are today. We had great family times at Balm Beach, throughout Ontario and BC. We will cherish these memories forever. Thank you Robert, Connie, John, Mercedes and Nick! Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Emil and the Boychuk family.
