Robert Johnson Obituary

Robert "Robbie" George Johnson passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, at Richmond General Hospital, following a challenging three month stay. He was 90.

Predeceased in 2014 by his beloved wife and life partner, Jean, Robbie is survived by his daughters, Robin (Phil) and Sandy; his grandchildren, Lea (Tomas), Brendan (Caroline), Josh (Amber), and Jordan (Sydney); and his great-grandchildren, Finley, Parker, Kaia, and Shay.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Robbie moved to Richmond in 1958 after marrying Jean, beginning a lifelong connection to the city he would help shape. He earned his Chartered Accountant designation and began his career in private practice before applying his financial expertise to real estate development during a formative period of Richmond's growth.

Over the decades, he played an instrumental role in the early development of several well-known residential neighbourhoods and extended that commitment through service on numerous boards and associations, including the Urban Development Institute, the City of Richmond
Design Panel, the Britannia Heritage Shipyard Society and Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society.

Family was the centre of Robbie's life and his greatest source of pride. He and Jean shared a deep partnership and a love of travel, making many trips to Hawaii with their family and enjoying countless adventures and getaways over the years. Together, they cruised throughout the world, with Alaska becoming a favourite destination in later years.

He loved the water and most holidays were spent by or on the ocean. Among his most treasured times were the days spent exploring the Gulf Islands aboard his boat, Misty Sky.

Until his fall in October, Robbie lived independently, enjoying regular trips to the casino and daily visits to his favourite Steveston bakeshop.

Celebrating his 90th birthday in June 2025, surrounded by his family, was an especially meaningful milestone.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public service. His family will honour and celebrate his life privately.

Friends and family may remember Robbie with a quiet walk along the Steveston waterfront, pausing in his memory to honour a life well-lived.

Those wishing to make a donation may do so in his name to the Britannia Heritage Shipyard Society.
