Audrey Risdon Obituary
Audrey Risdon passed peacefully, at her Calgary home in the arms of her loving children after a short illness, Matriarch to a large, close and loving family who will miss her deeply.
Audrey was born in Welling, Alberta, third daughter of loving parents Leonard and Winnie Workman. After graduating Kathryn High School, Audrey gained her teaching certificate in 1947 at university in Calgary and went on to teach students for several years in Wheatland County and Calgary. Later, she worked as an administrator in a small number of Calgary Dental offices and family-owned business interests, completing her business career in Hawaiian based residential and commercial property management. Audrey married three times. On July 8, 1950, she married John (Jack) Risdon and enjoyed many happy years living in Calgary raising their five children before Jack sadly died in June, 1966. Beginning in 1968, she had a brief marriage with George Engel. In 1977 Audrey married August (Gus) Karl Callbeck and enjoyed many happy years living and working along his side in Calgary, Kona and Honolulu, Hawaii until his passing in 2010.
Audrey was dedicated to her family and her faith. She was a mother of five (Linda, Penny, Terry, Bill and Guy), grandmother of 23 and great grandmother of 41: Linda (deceased) and Steve Cruser, who brought 6 grandchildren (J, Audra, Dan, James, Jennifer and Karen), plus 7 great grandchildren, and Penny and Don Fediuk, who brought 5 grandchildren (Corri, David, Sandy, Dale and Laura) plus 14 great grandchildren, and Terry Risdon May who brought 7 grandchildren (Wayne, Peter-deceased, Gary, Trevor, Blaine, Drew and Leanne) plus 13 great grandchildren, and Bill Risdon who brought 3 grandchildren (Ray, Jessie and Ashley) plus 7 great grandchildren, and Guy Risdon and Joni Swaile who brought 2 grandchildren (John and Katie). With Gus, she enjoyed 4 stepchildren (Louise, Rose, Robert and Valerie) who brought a number of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She is survived by all our memories of her as the most loving and compassionate Mom, Gramma and Great Gramma.
A service and reception will be held on Thursday April 27 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Heritage Chapel, 935 Heritage Dr SW, Calgary, with a visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 am prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial tributes be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society or any charity of their choice.
