Ann was my oldest and dearest friend in Canada....we met around 45 years ago at the Montreal General Hospital, and worked together for a very long time. She and Peter were like family to Serge and I, and I have precious memories of fondue dinners on Christmas Eve at their house, spending 3 months with them after we'd had a fire at our house, and many other outings and times together, even getting married from their house.!. I had the pleasure of welcoming Ann to my house every month for the past eleven years, when she came into Montreal for her eye appointments, and we'd have lively discussions at the kitchen table, whilst sharing a meal together.
I often told her that I was in awe of her, managing a house, driving a car, and generally looking after herself, all alone in the country.. I could not have done it myself, but she loved her place, and I was glad that she was able to do it.
I am very sad that she has now passed, and I miss her daily phone calls.. a real void in my life, and her monthly visits. She was a very independent lady, and she loved to discuss politics with me...
A true matriarch, she loved her family so much, and I do send my deepest condolences to you all. I feel as if I know many of you, even tho' we may not have met, because Ann talked about you all the time. She had a passion for finding her roots through ancestry, and she always brought her knitting with her for her visits to me..never a dull moment.!
However, I did see that she was getting tired recently, but I promised to help her when she planned to move into town..unfortunately,it was not meant to be, but I am sure she is at peace now. She had a life well lived, and, I hope, with few regrets. I will cherish the memory of her, and all that she was. A fine lady, with a generous heart, and many, many stories to tell. God bless, Ann. xx
