Bernard Hodge Obituary

Bernard George HODGE
1929 - 2026

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard (Ben) Hodge, in his 97th year, on March 5, 2026, at Grace Village. He was the son of the late Reginald Hodge and the late Florence Bacon.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 67 years Helen Pollock; his three sons David (Crystal), Steven, Graham (Valerie); his four grandchildren Jordan (Audrey), Sophie (Jean-Philippe), Rachel, and Esther; the three great-grandchildren Jaycee, Haylee and Zoey; his sister Marion (Garth) Dockeray; and nephews and nieces. Ben was predeceased by his brother-in-law William Pollock (Mercedes).
Ben was born and raised in Cookshire, QC. After graduating from Cookshire High School, he attended MacDonald College. After graduating with a degree in agriculture, he came home to the family farm to raise animals. It wasn't long before he decided he would rather work with people than animals. After completing a year of education at Bishop's University, he spent a rewarding thirty-five years in education, first at Princess Elizabeth High School and then at Alexander Galt Regional High School, where he was known as "Gentle Ben."
Visitation will take place at Cass Funeral Home, 3006 College St., Lennoxville on Saturday, March 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A private graveside service will take place in July.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ben's memory to Grace Village, 1515 rue Pleasant View, Sherbrooke, QC, J1M 0C6, or DoctorsWithoutBorders.ca
The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Village for their kind and compassionate care given to Ben.

Ben was a fine man and an excellent, approachable house principal at AGRHS when I was a student there. He worked closely with my family members and they were all good friends. RIP.

My sincere condolences to the whole family. I have fond memories of Ben when I was a young teacher at Alexander Galt in the 70s. He was a kind soul and so easily approachable. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

To members of the family,
Ben was always kind and friendly to me when I arrived at the board.

Ben was the principal of Greenhouse at AGRHS during my final year of high school. He was wonderfully fair, helpful and understanding. Later, I was privileged to serve with him on the board of directors for the Second Mile Senior Centre in Sawyerville. He leaves behind some great footfprints for us to follow. Godspeed to him and much comfort and courage to the entire family.

My deepest condolences to Helen and family. Ben was an exceptional man. Working with Ben at Galt was a joy. I have many wonderful memories of the time we spent together in the House Office. He was a true gentleman. Best boss ever!!
