Elizabeth Redpath Ostiguy Obituary

Elizabeth Gould Redpath OSTIGUY
May 26, 1929 - March 2, 2026

With the compassionate care provided by the administration and staff of Grace Village, Sherbrooke, QC, attending to our 96-year-old mother's need for respite care and end-of-life comfort, she peacefully came to rest, surrounded by family and friends.
We are emotionally overcome with both grief and gratitude. Memories and life-affirming experiences remind us of the love, care and beneficial influences of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, provided to our extended families and communities. Gram'lil, as she was affectionately called, was the youngest of five talented children blessed to Montrealer Dr. Arthur Gould and the astute Florence Graham.  She was predeceased by her siblings Graham, Helen, George and Jean; peers who became dedicated to issues of social-justice and education.
Elizabeth emerged early in her youth, as an accomplished competitive figure skater, coach and judge. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Bradford Redpath, with whom she had raised Thomas, Sandy, Ian and William, regrettably losing their two-year-old daughter Joanne.
As a young widow, Elizabeth later became a successful real estate agent and broker in Montreal and the Eastern Townships, where she met and married entrepreneur Claude Ostiguy, who predeceased her in 2002. Elizabeth enjoyed the companionship of Sherbrooke resident John Dunn during the latter stage of her life.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth provided a leadership role as a community volunteer in the service of war veterans, and numerous charitable social welfare initiatives. Indeed, she was a woman dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of others.

To all of Elizabeth´s family, my heartfelt condolences. I knew Elizabeth through the love of her dogs of which I had the privilege of caring for as a veterinarian. I always appreciated her sense of humour and wit.

To the Redpath Family,
Although we only knew Tommy, we send our deepest sympathy to all of you for the loss of your mother and grandmother. We met Elizabeth twenty-five years or so ago at a little cottage on Lac Massawippi. We were staying at the Ripplecove and saw the cottage and Elizabeth's "for sale" sign the evening before. This was the beginning of a long-lasting friendship. We would see her in Ayer's Cliff, at our homes in both Vermont and Montreal, and North Hatley. We would celebrate her birthday and our birthdays, usually at Manior Hovey or the Auberge Hatley. Although there were two of us, she always insisted on two birthday celebrations even though our birthdays were only a month apart. When we were not in Canada or Vermont, we would send or receive birthday cards. Elizabeth loved to come to Montreal for our dinner parties and we loved seeing her there. We enjoyed seeing her whenever or wherever. She was always so kind, thoughtful, positive in outlook, and steadfast in her loyalties and friendship. We shall miss our friend, the lovely Elizabeth Redpath Ostiguy.
