George William STANDISH
1932 – 2025
George passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at the age of 93.
George grew up in the Croydon neighborhood of Saint-Hubert. George was an active member in his community playing football and being in the army reserves.
After leaving the Reserves, he was employed for several years in the operation of the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line. George then moved to Beloeil in 1959 where he settled for almost 40 years. While living in Beloeil he started Pop Warner Football, coached hockey and was a scout leader. He was an avid skier and shared that passion with his 4 boys and grandchildren spending many hours at Owl's Head. He was a plumber, pipe fitter, and construction worker.
In later years, he lived in St-Isidore-de-Clifton, Lennoxville and Sherbrooke.
George is predeceased by his two sons Myles and Corin, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his spouse Elizabeth Cope; his children Scott (Stefanie), Jordan, Derek (Laura) and Angela (Loïc); as well as his grandchildren Myles, Ludovick, Oliver, Kaegan, Zoë, Jackson, Elliott, Carter, Aodhan and Matis.
There will be a celebration of George's life on the 3rd of January 2026 at the Army, Navy and Air Force, 300 St. Francis, Sherbrooke, QC from 13:00 to 16:00.
