Gerald Peck Obituary

Gerald Samuel Peck, age 87, of Sherbrooke, Quebec passed away May 1st, 2020. He was born at Aylwin Station, Quebec on July 25th, 1932, one of 16 children of Elijah and Vera Peck.
Gerald loved watching sports and his favourite teams were the Chicago Black Hawks of the NHL and Ottawa Rough Riders (now Redblacks) of the CFL. Gerald grew up working on farms and in the woods cutting timber, but moved to Sherbrooke when he married Marion MacAuley in 1954. He worked at Sherbrooke Pure Milk briefly, but spent his career at Sherbrooke Superheater, later acquired by Combustion Engineering and then Asea Brown Boveri. He was a voracious reader of newspapers, consuming the Sherbrooke Record and Montreal Gazette daily for decades. However, Gerald was at his happiest in the outdoors, hunting, cutting timber or fishing. He was also a proud 60+ year member of the Sherbrooke Snowshoe Club, the oldest snowshoe club in the world. Gerald also never missed an opportunity to play 31, often gloating over his wins. He and Marion lived in Sherbrooke while raising their three children, but he always had a special place in his heart for his birthplace.
A special thank you to the staff at the Grace Village, part of the Massawippi Retirement Communities, for their support and care during these challenging times.
Gerald was married to Marion MacAuley for 52 years before she passed away in 2006. His oldest son Gregory passed away in 2017 from cancer, but Gerald is survived by three siblings, Doreen, Silvia and Steven, and two sons, Brian Peck and wife Robyn in Vancouver BC, and Calvin Peck and wife Cindy in Spruce Grove AL. He is also mourned by his loving companion Shirley Wright of Sherbrooke, grandchildren Amanda (David), Michelle (Darren) and Danielle (Darin), great-grandchildren Jordan, Ryder and Lincoln, and many loving nephews, nieces and relatives.
The service and interment will be held at Danford Lake, Quebec at a later date.

I was saddened to see the loss of your father. We down the street neighbours on Quebec Street for many many years. Our mothers taught together at Mitchell School. Your mother was at summer school at Mac the same time as I was. She was great fun. I taught your cousin Ian in Quebec City when he was in Grade 1, the year his mother passed away. I am now living in Calgary, Alberta. I try to go back to the Townships every year. Many good years spent there. Take care, Priscilla McCourt Towers
