Gerard Leduc Obituary

Gérard LEDUC
1934 - 2021

Passed away suddenly at the age of 87, at the Bromont Residence, on the night of November 28, 2021. He had taken care to taste his last meal crowned with a chocolate treat and to call his relatives.
Born in Verdun, he married Gaétane Brassard and founded his family. After obtaining his doctorate from Oregon State University in 1966, he taught biology at Concordia University. He took root in Potton in 1979 and created the Heritage Association, which he chaired for 15 years. He was involved in the community in various activities. As a second career, he researched petroglyphs and cairn lines. After the restoration of the large round, he investigated the presence of the Templars in New France and prepared a book. His love for life, people and nature, his curiosity in explaining phenomena set him apart. He will always remain active in his work which will fascinate him until the end.
Gérard is survived by his three daughters Danielle (Marc Blouin), Francine (Marc Perron) and Marie-Claude (Charles Côté), her 9 grandchildren Élyse, Laurent, Laurence, Félix, Évelyne, Raphaël, Julia, Béatrice, Nicolas and their spouses, his great-grandson Léo; his siblings Simone (Guertin Labbé), Gilles (Jean-Pierre Valiquette) and Hélène; his nephews, nieces and cousins; and many precious friends and the Township community.
We would like to thank the staff of the Bromont Residence for their welcome and their good care. He will gently join his life partner Madeleine Soucy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made at the Center d'Action Bénévole Mansonville, 314-B, rue Principale, Mansonville, QC, J0E 1X0, 450-292-3114, [email protected].

It is with a heavy heart that I lose a friend. However, I defer to Gerard's family, especially to his daughters who have taken care of him this past year.
I met Gerard in 2002 after a conference on "ancient anomalies" - historical and archaeological evidence that has not yet fit into our body of knowledge. During those nineteen years, I have accompanied him on hundreds of kilometers of walks in Quebec, Vermont and Ontario. He collected evidence of prehistoric human-built walls and mounds. Then he noticed eight-sided and other unusual foundations that may have represented Knights Templar commissioned buildings - after France disbanded that order in 1307. That evidence required a book and I often acted as Gerard's 'cheerleader', supporting his researches and urging him to finish and publish that book.
He was an icon around Potton, leading tours to Sulphur Springs, to the ancient Winter Solstice sun-alignment markers along White's ridge, or to the unexplained walls at Missisquoi Nord. He had an eye for what others didn't want to see.
