Joan Harvey Obituary

Joan passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the age of 95. She is reunited with her parents, Humbert and Mary Mariotti, her loving husband Robert F. Harvey, daughter Ann E. Harvey, sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Bill Bannan, and son-in-law Jay Hanson.
She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her children, Gini Baumgardner (Mark), Susan Hanson, and Jim Harvey (Saffron). Grandchildren, Linda and Joanie Baumgardner, Andrea Hanson (Allison), Diana Frost (Rob), Rob Hanson (Andrea), and Alex and Alanna Harvey will forever cherish their "Nan", and their annual visits to her home, "Tipperary". Always a home away from home, summers in Knowlton were full of fun, special occasions, and treasured memories. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Taylor, Olivia, Griffin, and Archer, as well as many beloved relatives and friends.
Joan was well known for her strength, determination, and love of friends and family. Her caring, however, extended well beyond family, as she worked compassionately as a volunteer, for over 40 years, for the Montreal Association of the Blind. In 2001, she was awarded the Governor General's Award, an honour of which she rarely spoke, but was proudly recognized by her loved ones.
Despite increasing physical limitations, she kept her fighting spirit until the end. Her boundless love and compassion never waned, and she was determined to make the most of every day. Outings and visits with her very dear friends and family remained a priority. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank Dr. W. Barakett, and the staff at the Knowlton Medical clinic, as well as the kind and caring doctors and nurses at the Brome Missisquoi Perkins Hospital. Our most heartfelt appreciation and gratitude also go out to her caregivers Carla Hadlock, Diana Simpson, and especially her beloved Jean McLeod.
If desired, donations in Joan's name can be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or the BMP Hospital.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.

My most sincere sympathies to the Harvey Family.

When I started working at the MAB, I knew that Joan was volunteering for over 40 years, and I met the kind caring person she was. She will be always appreciated by the Volunteer Service and the clients. May She rest in peace.
