Joyce (Bockus) McTAVISH
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Eleanor (Bockus) McTavish, of Georgeville, Quebec, on December 1, 2025.
Until the end, Joyce was steadfastly positive and quietly resilient, always focused on the happiness of her family, and finding joy in the lives and accomplishments of her grandchildren. She loved to read, enjoyed a good game of cards, and visits round the kitchen table. She was "Granny" to many.
Joyce was born on July 1, 1933, in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She attended Bishop Mountain Hall and later Coaticook High School. After graduating in 1952, she went on to teach at the Fitch Bay School. Joyce first met Neil McTavish while sledding with friends on Sheldon Hill. They wed in 1955 and settled in Georgeville. The mail route around Magoon Point, the Esso station on Channel Hill Road, and an active community life kept them busy until Neil's death in 1998.
For decades, Joyce devoted her time to the ACW of St. George's Anglican Church, serving many of those years as president. She helped organize annual events such as the Church Bazaar and contributed to the ongoing care of the church. Although fearful of water, she worked to establish the first swimming lessons in Mill Bay for the village children.
Joyce will be missed by her son Greg (Lisa), her daughter Lisa (Geordie), her grandchildren Grace (Dan), William (Alyssa), Matthew (Hannah), Sarah, and Ethan, and her great-granddaughter Scottie. She is survived by her sister Elzada (Wendell) and many nieces and nephews.
Thank you to all who showed her love and care.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. George's Anglican Church or the Georgeville Community Association.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
