Paul Besozzi Obituary

Paul BESOZZI
1942 - 2026

Like the gentle fragrance of peonies carried on the wind, Paul Besozzi passed away on January 23, 2026, surrounded by his family, at the age of 83. Born in Montreal in 1942 to the late Catherine Burla (1963) and the late Frédéric Besozzi (1954), of Piedmontese origin, he later settled in Sherbrooke to pursue his vocation and to raise his family.
Paul devoted his life to education, notably as a French as a Second Language teacher at Alexander Galt Regional High School and as a pedagogical advisor with the Ministry of Education. Inquisitive by nature, he maintained a lifelong interest in philosophy, art history, culture, and gardening.
A great music lover, he developed a deep passion for opera and choral singing in his youth. He was a member of the Sherbrooke Symphony Choir for over 25 years, leaving a cherished memory among those who had the privilege of singing alongside him.
He shared his passions with France Dupuis (Ferenc Gyorfi), his former wife, and their children Frédéric, the late Raphaël (1978), Charles-Emmanue, and Élisabeth. He offered his wise counsel to his daughters-in-law Julie Lajoie and Félishia Audy, his boundless kindness to his grandchildren Raphaël, Oriane, Éléonore, Olivia, and Antoine, and his enduring love to his former partner, Lise Joyal, who over time became his closest friend, and to her children Jonathan, Valérie, and Marc-Olivier.
He also leaves in mourning his former sister-in-law Mireille Bélisle (late Yves) and her daughters Marie-Josée, Hélène, and Catherine; his cousin Sylvia Burla and her daughters Roxanne and Vanessa; as well as his devoted friend Ginette Gagné-Koch (late Edmond) and her children Jean-Christian and Pierre-Alexandre.
A secular funeral service will be held in his honour on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 2 p.m., at the Coopérative funéraire de l'Estrie, 485 rue 24-Juin, Sherbrooke. The family will receive condolences beginning at 12 p.m.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care team at CHUS - Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke for the quality of care and their compassionate support. Instead of flowers, donations to La Grande Table (lagrandetable.com) would be greatly appreciated - a cause that reflects Paul's values, as he deeply believed in nourishing the body so that the spirit may flourish.
