Robert Purdon Obituary
Mourned by his wife, the love of his life, Margaret Zurbrigg and by his children Marc (Cindy), Luke (Denise), and Anna (Michael), and by his grandchildren Sierra, Saige and Nathan, Megan and Tristan. He will be missed by his brothers Ken and John (Sigrid), and by his sisters Marie Rehkoph (Blaine), Helen Owen (Doug) and Lorraine (Enrique), by sister-in-law Eleanor (Terry), and by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
After a rich and full professional life, Burn prioritized family values. He cherished his garden and home in Sheffington and the family times there and at "the cabin" at Lac Poisson. Burn filled his family with joy and happiness until his last moments. He lived life with passion for music, social justice and the Earth, and always with compassion, laughter and dignity.
We want to thank the CLSC palliative home care team, especially Marie-Hélène Duhamel, Nathalie Munger and Dre Nadine Leblanc and the Maison au Diapason, Bromont.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Granby United Church, 101 Principale, Granby, Qc. The family will receive condolences starting at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to La Maison au Diapason, Bromont, or the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada.

MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO BURN'S FAMILY. HE WAS OUR MINISTER IN THURSO QC; MARRIED MY SISTER AND BURIED OUR FATHER. HE CAME HOME AND HAD LUNCH WITH MOM FOR 1 YR AFTER DAD'D PASSING. I NOW LIVE IN AYLMER, QC AND HAD THE PLEASURE TO SEE BURN ONCE MORE AT A MEETING AT AYLMER UNITED CHURCH. THANK U BURN FOR YOUR KINDNESS AND LOVE.

Dear Margaret, Mark, Luke, Anna and family.
I was so saddened to hear just yesterday that you have suffered a great loss. My sincere condolences to all of you. I have so many good memories of Burn's time preaching and his devotion to the youth of Calvary United Church in Sutton. He also officiated my wedding to Roderick Robertson in 1974. I nothing but fond memories of his smile and compassion as he spoke with parishioners and also later at Sherbrooke Presbytery where I served many years as Sutton's representative. Burn always led us in meaningful worship and I remember his beautiful collection of nativities being on display at Christmas time in Knowlton United. I always admired the strength of his faith and his zest for life. He will never be forgotten by the many people he touched with his kind words and compassion. You are all in my prayers.

My sincere sympathies Margaret, Marc, Luke and Anna. I just saw this now so wanted light a candle in memory of Reverend Purdon!! I will never forget Christmas church service and Easter sunrise service after youth weekends!! My baptism at 4 and confirmation at 12 . Plus having been the babysitter for a couple of years and how Rev. Purdon was always willing to listen no matter the topic and how he always gave great advice and was non judgmental ! He will be greatly missed and may all of your wonderful family moments and memories made, carry all of you through this difficult time! Rest in peace

By chance, I read of the death of Burn. Our condolences to all his family. On July 1, 1967, We were married in Buckingham, Quebec , by Burn...so he held a special place in our hearts. Burn was my supervisor when I was a student minister at Granby in the summer of 1977. I am retired now but I remember well his passion and his insight. Sincere condolences to Margaret and the family.

We never got to take that canoe trip he so anxiously wanted our youth group to experience......... Years later our paths crossed as he picked me up while I was hitchhiking to Toronto. He said "out of the blue goodness told him to stop and pick that soaked and shivering person up".
An exceptionally kind and gentle man.
I still treasure the Quebecois wooden man carving he gave me so many years ago.
May you now dwell within the Lord's care - the earth lost a compassionate soul.

Dear Margaret,
What a vital and full life was Burn's. I still remember with gratitude his beautiful voice, leading us in the singing of psalms at the 1982 General Council in Montreal. It was expressive and fulfilling worship.
