William McComb Obituary
William McCOMB
1940 - 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William "Bill" McComb on October 17, 2024. He died peacefully in Coaticook, at the age of 84.
Born in Barnston, QC, Bill was the son of the late Ida Neil and Hubert McComb.
He spent most of his life in Stanstead East, near Ayer's Cliff, as loving husband to his late wife, Sylvia Gilbert, for sixty-two years and doting father to his only child Billy who predeceased him in 1993.
Bill was an only child but grew up surrounded by over 30 cousins and stayed close to many of them throughout his life. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues.
Bill worked for CP Railroad for 25 years, stationed in Sherbrooke and St. Johnsbury, VT. Bill was known for his love of cars and mechanics. He used to race cars along Route 143 with friends as a young man. Bill could fix anything with a motor; not surprisingly, he had a side job as mechanic and tow truck driver for Crook's garage in Ayer's Cliff for almost 25 years. Bill also worked for the town of Ayer's Cliff at the boat wash and skating rink for 10 years.
Bill was a kind man who would do anything for those he cared about. He will be greatly missed.
We wish to extend our gratitude to the care staff at Manoir Stanstead where he lived with Sylvia for two years.
A celebration of life service will be held at Cass Funeral home, 900 Clough Street, in Ayer's Cliff on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 1 p.m. Luncheon to follow.
A private burial will occur in Spring 2025.
