Bernard LEFAIVE

1930 - 2023

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father Bernard Lefaive. Dad passed away peacefully at Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene on February 6, 2023 in his 93rd year. Predeceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Zita Lefaive (Lalonde). Beloved father of Don (Theresa), Anne (Ron Mayrand), Richard (Joanne), Paul (Janet), Denis, and David (Sharon). Predeceased by cherished daughter Lucille (Donn Wylie), and daughter-in-law Angela. Fondly remembered father-in-law of Lorraine and Janice.
Bernie was a cherished Pepere/Papa to 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Born on February 15, 1930, dad grew up in Perkinsfield. His home was on Concession 11 at Lefaive's Corner. From a young age, he was interested in how things were made and how they worked. His curiosity led him to take apart many small household items, such as clocks and radios, only to put them back together again, (most times with success). As a teenager, dad had the opportunity to work along with his father who was an electrician. Together, they wired a lot of the houses in Perkinsfield as well as St Patrick's Church. Dad became a very good electrician. His main interest, however, was always in fixing things. He became a licensed auto mechanic and worked at Gropp Motors in Penetang for many years. This profession gave him the opportunity to work after hours on many vehicles of family, neighbours, and friends. He was always a great provider for his growing family; a very hard-working man. In 1966 dad decided to join the team at Midland Industries as a maintenance man, where he worked until his retirement. Some of dad's downtime activities were fishing, gardening, and playing cards. He had an appreciation for live music as well, especially when performed by his great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed his French songs (chansons a répondre) and was called upon quite often in his younger days to call square dances at weddings. One of his greatest gifts was his ability to make people feel special. He loved to meet new people and was always ready to greet people with a friendly smile and handshake (or maybe a kiss for the ladies). Acquaintances soon became friends and dad was there with a friendly joke ready to roll from his tongue. He was the best at telling jokes. He loved to make people laugh. His kindness and his great sense of humour stood out as some of his greatest qualities. Bernie was a loving husband to his wife and best friend Zita. He supported her in all of her interests; quilting, church groups, youth groups, and everything she took part in. He was her rock and stood beside her every step of the way. Dad was the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather anyone could ever have. He made each one of us feel special. He was always loving and supportive and would do anything for his family. He was a selfless, very generous man. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Ann's Church on February 15, 2023. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a Charity of Your Choice.
